Summary

  • Park Heejin is a perceptive mage-type hunter who fades into the background after the Red Gate arc.
  • Ma Dongwook, a Tanker-type S-rank hunter, is unlikely to have a significant role in future arcs.
  • Lee Joohee, an old friend of Sung Jinwoo, is not expected to play a role in the series moving forward.

Solo Leveling recounts the story of Sung Jinwoo, humanity's weakest hunter, who surpasses everyone's expectations to become the strongest hunter in the world after his second awakening. Since the series is hyper-focused on the protagonist's dramatic growth, there are many interesting characters who fade into the background after playing a part in Sung's journey.

Solo Leveling Season 3 Release Date: What To Expect
Solo Leveling: Will Sung Jin-Woo Betray Korea?

Jin-Woo will be the man of the hour after Jeju Island, but will he betray Korea and join an international guild?

Solo Leveling often gets criticized for its lack of deeper character development beyond Sung Jinwoo, but that is going to remain its biggest strength and quite paradoxically its greatest weakness in future installments as well. Here are a few interesting characters who are expected to miss out on Solo Leveling's third season due to the show's shifting focus on global conflicts and god-tier beings.

1 Park Heejin

B-Rank Hunter

  • Anime Debut: Episode 6
  • Webtoon Debut: Chapter 49

Park Heejin is a mage-class hunter working for the White Tiger Guild. She is a perceptive and intelligent young woman who figures out that Jinwoo is hiding his true powers in the first interaction during the Red Gate incident.

With the series hyper-focused on Sung Jinwoo and his superhuman evolution, Park barely does anything noteworthy during her brief appearance in the Red Gate arc. As such, it's unlikely that she will be seen in the next season of the show. However, she might make a brief appearance in later installments of the series.

2 Ma Dongwook

Tanker-Type S-Rank Hunter

  • Anime Debut: Episode 21
  • Webtoon Debut: Chapter 90

Ma Dongwook is the leader of the Fame Guild. He is also one of the strongest hunters in Korea and a member of the Jeju Island raid party. Dongwook is gifted with enhanced strength and durability, but his most unique skill is called Gigantification, which allows him to increase his size significantly.

While Ma is portrayed as an important hunter in Korea, his role in the series is not as significant. From the Recruitment arc onwards, the show is going to explore international hunter politics and larger global conflicts. So, Dongwook is unlikely to play a role in the show's third season.

3 Han Song-Yi

Jinah's Close Friend

  • Anime Debut: Episode 1
  • Webtoon Debut: Chapter 11

Han Song-Yi is Jinah's school friend and an E-rank hunter. She crosses paths with Sung Jinwoo during the Yoo Jinho Raid Party arc. Song-Yi is one of the hunters hired by Jinho to create a ragtag team that could legally raid C-rank dungeons.

7 Action Manhwa A-1 Pictures Should Adapt After Solo Leveling

After Solo Leveling, studio A-1 Pictures needs to adapt these amazing action manhwa next

Jinwoo later learns that Han has dropped out of school to work as a hunter and, realizing the dangers that come with such a choice, agrees to convince her to return to school. When he gets stuck inside the Red Gate with Song-Yi, Sung ensures that she is safe along with other hunters in his group.

Han is one of those characters who acquaint viewers with the harsh reality of being a hunter and the challenges of surviving in a world that is heavily skewed in favor of those gifted with natural powers. She also offers a closer understanding of what Jinwoo is like as a person and the lengths he is willing to go to help others. It would not be surprising that a lot of Solo Leveling fans may wish to see more of Song-Yi, but unfortunately, she will be absent from most of the action from the next season onwards.

4 Lim Tae-Gyu

Fiend Guild's Leader

  • Anime Debut: Episode 19
  • Webtoon Debut: Chapter 76

Lim Tae-Gyu is Korea's best ranger-type hunter. He serves as the guild master of the Fiend Guild and is one of the few Korean hunters shortlisted for the Jeju Island raid party. Although he is an S-ranker, Lim is significantly weaker than most international hunters of the same rank.

Tae-Gyu fights valiantly during the Jeju Island raid, but he is not as effective as the other hunters in the team. As the series turns its attention to events outside Korea, Lim is going to be one of many characters who naturally fade into the background, allowing newer characters to take the spotlight.

5 Lee Minsung

Vice-Guild Master Of The Fiend Guild

  • Anime Debut: Episode 18
  • Webtoon Debut: Chapter 67

Lee Minsung is a spoiled brat who uses his approach as an actor to join the Fiend Guild to improve his public image after getting criticized for dodging the Korean military draft. Unfortunately, his efforts to divert public attention fail as Sung Jinwoo is announced as Korea's 10th S-rank hunter and hogs all the limelight.

Solo Leveling: 7 Best Arcs Yet To Be Adapted In The Anime

These story arcs from the manhwa have yet to appear in the anime and are set to take Solo Leveling to the next level in the coming seasons.

While Minsung is an interesting character, he is unlikely to add any value to future arcs of the series and will likely be absent from the show in the next installment.

6 Lee Joohee

Sung Jinwoo's Old Friend

  • Anime Debut: Episode 1
  • Webtoon Debut: Chapter 1

Lee Joohee had always been there for Sung Jinwoo from the start. When he was struggling as an E-ranker and often getting life-threatening injuries, Joohee always had his back and saved his life on several occasions. But as Jinwoo evolved into one of the best hunters in the world, his commitment to his family and other responsibilities resulted in him losing touch with her.

To be honest, you got hurt so much it became preety annoying. I thought you were stupid and vain at times. But, you always managed to survive. Those eyes, brimming with life, seemed like they were screaming for survival… For tomorrow…

Joohee also struggled to survive as a hunter since she was unable to handle the psychological trauma of the dungeon raids. Lee had only a few appearances after the Double Dungeon incident, but a lot of fans wanted Jinwoo to end up with her. She is one of the few characters that frequently get mentioned when the series is discussed. But despite her popularity, Joohee won't feature in the next few arcs. Fans can expect to see her again only in the last season of the show.

7 Song Chi-Yul

Survivor Of Double Dungeon Incident

  • Anime Debut: Episode 1
  • Webtoon Debut: Chapter 1

Song Chi-Yul is not the flashiest hunter in the series, but from the beginning, he has been one of the few characters who has empathized with Sung Jinwoo's struggles and offered a helping hand. In the Double Dungeon, he speculates about sacrificing himself on the altar for others and even fights Kang Taeshik to protect Sung and Lee in the Dungeon and Prisoners arc.

Song Chi-Yul even comes out of retirement during the Jeju Island raid to protect civilians from the evolved ants. However, he is unlikely to make an appearance in the third installment of the series. Having retired already, Chi-Yul is expected to live a normal life away from the battlefield.
