This article contains spoilers for Solo Leveling and Solo Leveling Ragnarok.
Thanks to the incredible adaptation it received, Solo Leveling has become a huge hit overseas, and it's fair to say that the series has taken the world by storm. Solo Leveling was always popular, but with the anime adaptation it grew bigger than ever before, and fans have only come to love the source material, the web novel, and the manhwa, even more as a result.
A New Replacement For Solo Leveling Is Here, And It's Even Better
Solo Leveling is big, but this anime has been taking over in Japan.
The man behind the source material of this series is none other than Chugong, the creator of Solo Leveling. Chugong is, unlike other big creators, very involved with his community, and is often seen answering questions fans have. Most recently, Chugong spoke about Ragnarok, a Solo Leveling sequel written by a different author, and he revealed it isn’t exactly a direct continuation of Jinwoo’s story, but one of many Solo Leveling universes.
Chugong Reveals Solo Leveling Ragnarok Isn’t A Direct Continuation of the Original Series
- Ragnarok is One of Many Solo Leveling Universes
- Ragnarok Is Still Canon
Solo Leveling Ragnarok is, currently, the only sequel the Solo Leveling series has. Ragnarok is set after the original story of Solo Leveling, and features a different main character. Instead of Jinwoo, his son with Chae-Hae In, Sung Suho, takes the reins. Ragnarok, while great, was not created by Chugong. It was instead written by Daul.
Fans have always wondered how Chugong felt about the series, and how he believes it fits in the Solo Leveling universe. Recently, Chugong answered this very question. On LitRes, Chugong was interviewed recently, and he revealed that while Ragnarok’s story is a part of Solo Leveling, it isn’t a direct continuation of his story. Instead, fans can think of it as one of the many alternate stories of Solo Leveling, in its own universe. He even compared this to Marvel’s multiverses.
Solo Leveling Has Officially Ended, But Sung Jinwoo's Story Will Continue
Solo Leveling is over, but that doesn't mean Jinwoo's story is over.
Here is his full statement on the matter:
“Ragnarok was a spin-off created for fanservice. I was curious to see how another author would write Solo Leveling. This story is part of the Solo Leveling universe, but it isn’t a direct continuation of the main plot. It’s more like one of many possible scenarios—similar to Marvel’s parallel universes. And of course, I’m also considering the possibility of writing a sequel myself.” — Chugong
This has come as a disappointment to some fans who considered it the official canon sequel, and now, it's been confirmed that that's not the case. The author might completely flip the script in the future and push Suho into a corner, or write him out entirely.
Will Sung Suho Get More Attention?
It’s Unlikely As Any Other Sequel Will Focus on Jinwoo
Chugong has expressed wanting to possibly write his own sequel for Solo Leveling. But of course, this sequel will take a drastic shift from Ragnarok. In that story, Sung Suho might not even exist, and Jinwoo could even have other children. Sung Suho’s story starts and ends with Ragnarok, and it’s unlikely fans will ever see his adventures beyond that.
Solo Leveling has two seasons out right now, one with 12 episodes, and the other with 13, for a combined episode count of 25 episodes available to watch right now. The series can be streamed on Crunchyroll for fans to enjoy while awaiting any more news concerning the third season. For fans who can’t wait for season 3 to come out, checking out the Manhwa might be a great option.
