This article contains spoilers for the Solo Leveling and Hunter x Hunter series.
2025 has given fans a lot of exciting anime already, and one series fans can’t stop talking about is Solo Leveling. Solo Leveling is the new big action anime, and as such, has been praised a lot, even winning many titles and awards. It’s not a bad series by any means, but when it, or any other big 2025 hit, such as Demon Slayer, it Takopi's Original Sin, is compared to this iconic shonen series, it doesn’t even come close, and the series is Hunter x Hunter. Hunter x Hunter currently has an MAL rating of 9.03, while Solo Leveling is much lower, at 8.24.
Crunchyroll's Most Popular Anime Has Been Revealed, And Solo Leveling Just Got Beaten
Solo Leveling is huge, but it isn't Crunchyroll's most popular anime anymore. This title was taken by a new, unique anime series, Gachiakuta.
Even with Solo Leveling getting new seasons and episodes, it’s unlikely that it will ever surpass Hunter x Hunter, especially as fans tire of the same repeated formula of Solo Leveling and its lack of plot.
Hunter x Hunter Is Superior To 2025’s Best Anime: Solo Leveling
- HxH has a rating of 9.03 (7th)
- Solo Leveling has a rating of 8.24 (362nd)
Hunter x Hunter has had, so far, two anime adaptations. One of those adaptations is old, from 1999. The really popular adaptation, however, is the newer 2011 anime adaptation of Hunter x Hunter. The 2011 version had more content to animate and elevated the series to a whole new level. Hunter x Hunter is now a household name that most anime fans have heard of. After all, Togashi, its creator, has written some of the very best anime arcs, such as the Chimera Ant arc, and Yorknew City. The series also has some incredible battles using Nen, its amazing power system. All in all, it’s unsurprising to see it boast a 9.03 rating, and overall, it ranks as MAL’s 7th highest-rated anime of all time.
Solo Leveling Ragnarok Author Officially Gives Sung Jinwoo A New Ending, And Fans Love It
Sung Jinwoo is a beloved Solo Leveling character, and he finally got a new, better ending.
In comparison, Solo Leveling, which is 2025’s best anime, is all about the battles. The series first came out in 2024 and had a new season in 2025, and while it’s still popular right now, it will not have the longevity of Hunter x Hunter. Solo Leveling will probably be forgotten in the next few years, especially if its Season 3 isn’t up to standards or if it releases too late. After all, Solo Leveling doesn’t have a strong story to keep fans coming back for more. Its rating is 8.24 on MAL, and it doesn't even break into the top 300 best-rated anime on the platform.
Hunter x Hunter’s Return Could Be One Of The Greatest Ever
With Togashi Continuing the Manga, An Anime Return is Very Possible
Hunter x Hunter is a series with the potential to be on the level of One Piece, Naruto, and Dragon Ball. Its one flaw, however, is its hiatuses. Indeed, the breaks Togashi takes have halted the series a lot and have fans wondering if the story will ever see a conclusion.
Togashi has, however, been working on the story somewhat consistently. It wouldn’t be impossible to see an anime return in the next few years when the studio has enough content to adapt.
HxH’s new season would be an insane comeback and one that fans have patiently waited for over a decade. Not many series can keep a hold on the fanbase for this long, with so little content.
Solo Leveling has two seasons out right now, one with 12 episodes and the other with 13, for a combined episode count of 25 episodes available to watch right now. The series can be streamed on Crunchyroll for fans to enjoy while awaiting any more news concerning the third season. For fans who can’t wait for season 3 to come out, checking out the Manhwa might be a great option.
