Sung Jinwoo has collected quite a lot of fascinating shadows in Solo Leveling, from a mutated insect, a wyvern, and a shaman to a former human. Each shadow contributes to Jinwoo’s battles in its own way, making them an essential part of the formidable undead army.
This Forgotten Solo Leveling Character Is the First to Know About Jin-Woo's Ability to Level Up
For the first time ever, Sung Jin-Woo reveals he can level up to this forgotten character.
While all of Jinwoo’s shadows in Solo Leveling offer additional value to the undead army, there are some who are far more important due to their raw power, responsibility, intellect, and overall usefulness. Without these shadows, Jinwoo would have exerted more effort and faced more inconvenience while grinding levels, clearing dungeons, and defeating opponents.
Greed
Greed doesn’t get as much screen time as the other shadows on this list, which in turn limits his impact on Solo Leveling, despite his incredible strength as a former S-rank hunter.
Given his limited appearances and role in the shadow army, it only feels right to place him at the bottom of the ranking. While it’s true that he holds more power than Tank, Iron, and even Kaisel, he falls short in terms of consistency and battlefield utility.
Min Byung-Gu
-
Although Min Byung-Gu is only a temporary shadow in Jinwoo’s army, he proved to be an indispensable ally during the Jeju Island arc, thanks to the healing abilities he retained from his time as a human.
Without Min Byung-Gu, Cha Hae-In could have been long dead in Solo Leveling. Even without receiving direct orders from Jinwoo, he knew that he needed to heal Cha Hae-In instantly after being summoned with the shadow extraction skill. Had Jinwoo not released Min Byung-Gu, he could have been a powerful support to the shadow army, capable of enhancing their abilities. Unfortunately, we can't put Min Byung-Gu any higher on this list, as his only contribution to the shadow army was healing Cha Hae-In.

Tank
If Jinwoo wants to plow through his enemies, Tank is the perfect shadow to use. His animalistic impulses allow him to charge forward relentlessly, breaking enemy lines and creating openings for Jinwoo and the other shadows to exploit.
Tank is only a Knight-grade shadow, but that doesn’t mean it's easy for Jinwoo to dispose of him. He is strong enough to defeat monsters, smash through their defenses like an angry ram, and serve as a reliable tank whenever brute strength is needed.
Iron
While Iron lacks the same wisdom as Bellion and most of the other shadows in Jinwoo’s army, his usefulness on the battlefield is undeniable. First, his additional strength made it possible for Jinwoo to defeat Baruka during the Red Gate arc. Second, he helped greatly in Jinwoo’s quest to find the ingredients for the Elixir of Life, taking down powerful opponents and securing dangerous locations in the process.
Iron also has no problem dealing with opponents stronger than him. His bravery is unmatched, so he takes great pride in his ability to protect Jinwoo and face any challenge head-on, no matter the odds. Unfortunately, he never reached the same rank as Beru and other superior shadows despite his useful contributions to the army.

Kaisel
While Kaisel isn’t the strongest shadow in Jinwoo’s army, he is truly one of the most important due to his unmatched utility. The wyvern’s ability to soar over any terrain lets Jinwoo reach critical locations instantly every time his Shadow Exchange skill is on cooldown.
In addition, Kaisel also offers additional aerial support to Jinwoo while fighting opponents who are far bigger than him, like the giants in Tokyo. Kaisel is also not limited to carrying Jinwoo, as he is strong enough to give a ride to another person on his back.
Igris
For most of Solo Leveling, Igris serves as Jinwoo’s personal knight. His exceptional swordsmanship allows him to protect Jinwoo from the deadliest threats, slaying monsters and powerful enemies who want his master’s head, especially during the Red Gate arc, where he cut down ice elves, bears, and even yetis without fail.
Although Igris doesn’t match Kargalgan’s destructive power, Bellion’s strength, or Beru’s flexibility, he is strong and wise enough to lead a part of Jinwoo’s army. He can also handle a Monarch by himself, especially after reaching full power.
Tusk
While Tusk doesn’t have the same bond as Beru with Jinwoo, he is always ready to wreak havoc on his master’s enemies. Being trusted by the Orb of Avarice, Tusk can cause greater destruction with his magic spells, hymns, and shamanistic abilities. Thanks to his exceptional magic skills and his wide area of effect, Jinwoo can easily wipe out large numbers of enemies.
Just like the other shadows in Jinwoo’s army, Tusk is incredibly devoted to his master. No matter what challenges Jinwoo faces, Tusk stands by his side. Even if Jinwoo decides to take away his beloved artifact, nothing will shake Tusk’s loyalty.
Beru
Beru is Sung Jinwoo’s ultimate fanboy who would go above and beyond to honor his name and worship him like a god, no matter what happens. He was extremely fixated on serving Jinwoo to the point that he wanted to replace Bellion as his right hand. Those who dare cross Jinwoo get his endless wrath, as his devotion to his master comes with lethal consequences.
Beru takes great joy in serving Jinwoo and grows lonely when he isn’t asked for help. Not only did Beru clear an A-rank dungeon on behalf of Jinwoo, but he also wiped out the remaining mutated ants on Jeju Island during the fourth raid. If that wasn’t enough, Jinwoo trusts him enough to delegate critical tasks, like when he commanded Beru to shred a giant from the inside out during the Japan Crisis Arc. In short, whatever Jinwoo asks of him, he delivers without fail.
Bellion
Let’s admit it, Bellion is the real face of the shadow army. He is the strongest of them all and has been serving the shadow monarch for centuries, even before Jinwoo assumed responsibility. Not only does he offer unmatched loyalty and respect, but he also brings more power to the shadow army.
His arrival on Earth triples the force of Jinwoo’s army, giving it a greater edge and an unmatched tactical advantage. Even Jinwoo considers his inputs in strategizing against powerful enemies, knowing that his combat experience and instincts can make the difference between losing and winning. On top of that, Bellion can command Jinwoo’s army on his behalf. He can act and decide independently in the best interest of his master.
