While Solo Leveling: Ragnarok is truly enjoyable for most fans of the franchise, it certainly has some heavy ramifications. Solo Leveling isn’t really ‘Solo Leveling’ anymore, as now, anyone can level up. Sung Suho, with his shadow creation ability, can create items that level up. Anyone using these items feels their powers increase every time they level up. Fans have mixed feelings about this story addition, but at the end of the day, Solo Leveling: Ragnarok is set in an alternate universe, and whatever happened there will not directly impact the original story.

‘Solo Leveling’ is Over As Anybody Can Level Up Now

Solo Leveling has proven to be quite an exciting anime series where the protagonist continuously grows stronger by leveling up. The name Solo Leveling refers to the core of the series, which is based around Sung Jinwoo and how only he is the one who can level up. Meanwhile, other Hunters, upon awakening, stay at the same level all their lives. The name is quite literally the perfect choice, as is quite clear.

In the original series, the power to level up was unique to Jinwoo, but this, of course, was changed in Solo Leveling: Ragnarok, the sequel. Sung Suho, Jinwoo’s son, can also level up. Fans weren’t too surprised to know this, as he took over the role of main character. However, more shockingly, in Ragnarok, everyone can now basically level up through a loophole.

Previously an ability reserved for the main character, now, the power to grow stronger is accessible to anyone. This happened through Sung Suho’s Shadow Creation ability. With his Shadow Creation, Suho can create shadow equipment from shadows he has acquired.

These shadow equipments can level up, and can be given to other people. The first example of that happening was Solo Leveling Ragnarok chapter 62. Sung Suho gave Baek Yoonho Heroic Grade gauntlets. These gauntlets can level up, and when they do, Baek feels his power increase.

While Baek doesn’t directly level up, it’s a clever loophole that allows other characters around Suho to get stronger without breaking the Solo Leveling narrative.

Solo Leveling: Ragnarok’s Story Doesn’t Directly Impact The Original Solo Leveling Series

The addition of other characters leveling up through shadow equipment is definitely a controversial choice. After all, the basic idea around Solo Leveling was that leveling up is a unique power that not everyone can get.

Whether fans love it or hate it, at the end of the day, Chugong, the original creator of Solo Leveling, has already confirmed that Solo Leveling: Ragnarok is set in its own universe, separate from the original story.

“Ragnarok was a spin-off created for fanservice. I was curious to see how another author would write Solo Leveling. This story is part of the Solo Leveling universe, but it isn’t a direct continuation of the main plot. It’s more like one of many possible scenarios — similar to Marvel’s parallel universes. And of course, I’m also considering the possibility of writing a sequel myself.” — Chugong

In other words, the addition of shadow equipment leveling other people up isn’t a huge issue, and will have no implications on the original story. Fans upset about this breaking the iron rule of Solo Leveling can rest easy. Others who enjoy what Ragnarok has to offer can continue to enjoy it as the Manhwa continues.

"I Feel Like Something Within Me Is Lost Every Time I Get Stronger." — Sung Jinwoo

Solo Leveling has 25 episodes available to watch right now, split over two major seasons, the most recent of which wrapped up in 2025. The series can be streamed on Crunchyroll. There have been no major announcements about a third season so far. Fans can get more Solo Leveling content via the Manhwa.
