This post contains spoilers for Solo Leveling.
There's a lot of hype around Solo Leveling Season 3, and rightly so. It is the sequel to one of the best anime seasons of all time. Solo Leveling fans will testify that season 2 of the anime was fantastic and much better than the first. Aside from being packed with action, it raised the curtain on some mysteries in the story.
Solo Leveling's Sung Jinwoo Has Already Been Surpassed By 1 Manhwa Protagonist
Jinwoo from Solo Leveling is the most popular Manhwa character at the moment. He might have some competition, however.
While there's no denying that the third season of Solo Leveling is going to be amazing, there is one show that it can never beat in terms of quality. What's surprising is that the series can be watched on Crunchyroll, the same platform as Solo Leveling, and it is none other than Frieren: Beyond Journey's End.
Frieren Is A Much Better Anime Than Solo Leveling
- Frieren is an exceptional anime series
- It far surpasses Solo Leveling
When it comes to storytelling, world-building, complex characters, and development of characters, Frieren is leagues ahead of Solo Leveling. The only thing that Solo Leveling is better at is the action, which makes sense considering the web novel is primarily focused on fighting magical beasts. While some people may think that getting the action right is the most important, it is not enough to elevate an anime above the rest. This is why Frieren stands above Solo Leveling, as it gets everything else right.
The greatest joy of magic lies in searching for it.
Frieren, the main protagonist of the anime, is also miles better than Sung Jinwoo. Throughout the anime, she keeps learning different things and understands the error of her ways. Frieren doesn't just think about getting stronger, but she also tries to find ways to grow mentally. On the other hand, Sung Jinwoo is primarily focused on getting stronger and protecting his family. His goals are definitely noble, but the repetitive nature of the story makes him seem a very one-dimensional character. Every Solo Leveling arc is almost the same. Sung Jinwoo meets a strong opponent, and he struggles a little in the fight before obliterating them completely. Due to this unfortunate reason, Sung Jinwoo's character lacks depth.
Frieren Season 2 Is Coming To Crunchyroll Soon, And More Seasons Are Now Confirmed
Frieren Season 2 is already confirmed, and the fate of the seasons after has also been revealed.
Frieren Is Superior To Solo Leveling In Many Departments
Another field where Frieren has Solo Leveling beaten all ends up is having quality side characters. For the most part, Solo Leveling is focused on Sung Jinwoo, which gives the side characters little to no time to shine. In fact, even the S-rank Hunters are sidelined, which negatively impacts their growth. In Frieren, characters like Fern, Heiter, Himmel, and Stark contribute to the story and are given adequate screen time. So it doesn't matter if Solo Leveling Season 3 has even better animation and fights; it still won't be able to fix the issues. Hence, Frieren will remain above it in terms of overall quality.
Even the general audience leans towards Frieren, as evidenced by the reviews across aggregate websites like MyAnimeList and IMDb. Currently, Frieren is the highest-rated anime on MyAnimeList, which puts it above the likes of Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, One Piece, Attack on Titan, and several others.
Fans Are Not Happy With Frieren Season 2 Episode Count
Recently, the episode count for Frieren Season 2 was disclosed, which left fans rather disappointed. It was confirmed that the second season will only have 10 episodes, making it a lot shorter than the first. The decision has gone down well with fans who expected to watch more episodes of their beloved anime. While it may be difficult to make sense of the decision at first, there is a perfectly fine reason for it —pacing.
Frieren Season 2 Will Still Be A Hit
Frieren is among the few anime titles that have mastered the art of pacing. Every episode of the anime has an optimal pace, so it doesn't seem that things are moving too fast or too slow. If the new season has 20+ episodes, it would get too close to the manga, which normally wouldn't be a problem, but since the series went on an indefinite hiatus in 2025, it wouldn't be the prudent approach. So, Madhouse made the good choice of sticking to a lower episode count. While the episode count is low, fans can rest assured that there won't be any compromise to the quality.
