One of the producers of Aniplex, Sota Furuhashi, who has worked very closely with the Solo Leveling team, has recently said something that shocked many fans. He mentioned that, if it was solely up to him, season 3 of Solo Leveling wouldn’t come out before 2028. This is a lot longer than fans expected. Here’s his exact statement:
“I think, more than anyone, I am anxiously awaiting a Season 3! But in truth, between Season 1 and Season 2, 220,000 frames of animation were created. So, if it were up to me, I’d say let’s wait until the next Olympics (2028) to see what’s going to happen with a Season 3. But I think that’s more up to Kaneko and A-1 Pictures.” — Sota Furuhashi

It’s important to keep in mind that what Sota Furuhashi said is only what he believes is best, and not what the studio plans to do. As a producer, he wants what’s best for the series, and since Solo Leveling is so labor intensive, he believes 2028 to be the best timeframe, but that probably won’t work for the studio, especially since the anime is so popular. A wait that’s too long for the anime could kill the extreme hype the Solo Leveling series currently has.
