And speaking of Sung Jin-Woo's enemies in Solo Leveling, the third season is expected to reveal the real mastermind behind the appearance of gates and dungeons in the human world. From the first episode, hunters like Jin-Woo have been risking their lives just to clear these gates one after another, without knowing who and what created them.
Jin-Woo Clears More Gates Than Anyone in Solo Leveling

To clear a Gate in Solo Leveling, it’s crucial to understand how dangerous it is before a strike team attempts to raid it. It’s common knowledge that a low-level Gate is easier to clear than a high-level one, where even the most powerful hunters can be wiped out in minutes if they underestimate the threat inside. A single misstep can cost many lives, and Jin-Woo understands this better than anyone.
At present, however, Jin-Woo has cleared more Gates than anyone in Korea. From low-level to higher-tier Gates teeming with magical beasts, Jin-Woo has proven time and again that he is a true one-man army. With Sung Jin-Woo's strongest shadows, no Gate is too dangerous, and no dungeon boss is too powerful. He no longer needs a strike team to support him, as they can only hinder his experience and level farming.
That said, there’s no official record of other hunters who can clear up a high-level Gate like Jin-Woo. Most probably, national-level hunters like Thomas Andre or even Sung Il-Hwan are capable, but it is still up for debate. The series creator, Chugong, only revealed in an online forum that Jin-Woo's canon wife, Cha Hae-In, could clear up the Hunters Guild Gate and defeat Kargalgan, now known as Tusk.
The Rulers Created the Gates All Along

While some of the Monarchs have already appeared in Solo Leveling Seasons 1 and 2, their archnemeses, the Rulers, have yet to make their presence known. Only Sung Jin-Woo's father, Sung Il-Hwan, and the Chairman of the Korean Hunters Association, Go Gun-Hee, have direct ties to the Rulers, but Jin-Woo is still unaware of their real power, intentions, and the critical role they play in the power balance at the moment.
Solo Leveling Season 3 could shed more light on the Rulers, especially if the Japan Crisis story arc is adapted. In this arc, one of the Monarchs named Legia, speaks about the truth behind the Rulers and their plan in the human world. Apparently, the Rulers engineered the Gates to gradually inject mana into Earth until the planet can withstand the upcoming battle between the Rulers and the Monarchs.

That’s not all, as Legia is generous enough to also inform Jin-Woo about the magical beasts emerging from the Gates. These so-called monsters are the denizens of the chaos world, remnants of the ancient battles between the Rulers and the Monarchs. Of course, they are not on the side of humanity, with the Rulers implanting magic crystals in their bodies that urge them to kill all humans.
The Monarchs Are Still Jin-Woo's Real Enemies
Despite the role of the Rulers in orchestrating these highly dangerous Gates, Jin-Woo's real enemies are still the Monarchs. While Jin-Woo is the Shadow Monarch himself, he isn’t the type of person who would just blindly follow anyone. As the strongest hunter, he lives by his own rules, doing what he wants and what he believes is right, even if it means defying powerful forces like the Rulers and the Monarchs.
Still, between the Monarchs and the Rulers, the Monarchs remain Jin-Woo's main enemies, as their destructive ambitions directly threaten humanity. It goes without saying that Jin-Woo will stop at nothing to eliminate them, using every power and strategy to protect the people he swore to defend. With this, Solo Leveling Season 3 is shaping up to be an intense chapter that could give fans information overload about these godlike beings.
