Jinwoo has quickly become a fan favorite, mostly due to his insane power growth, and he certainly qualifies to be considered an overpowered main character. After all, he is constantly leveling up, and by the end of the Solo Leveling Manhwa, he is definitely the strongest overall in his series. What he has in strength, however, he lacks in character. Frieren and Sakamoto are both overpowered main characters from new-gen anime series who are far better than Sung Jinwoo, and in many ways.

Jinwoo from Solo Leveling is overpowered. While he had humble beginnings, once he left the double dungeon, he was a man reborn with the ability to level up and constantly get stronger.

His first few battles saw him struggle, but then, he became so overpowered that nothing was really a challenge. He even became the Shadow Monarch and built his own army. Even now, in the Solo Leveling anime, he has yet to reach his peak. That said, despite so many battles, Jinwoo rarely has any character moments. He is the true embodiment of a character carried by strength and hype.

Frieren is One Of the Strongest in Her Series

She’s Strong, But Also A Well Written Character

Frieren is the main character of the anime series Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. Frieren, alongside Solo Leveling, were definitely the biggest anime series, and both were competing for various titles at Crunchyroll’s 2025 awards. While Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End didn’t do as well as Solo Leveling there, the series definitely features the superior main character.

Frieren is powerful and one of the very strongest in her series. She is an elf who has lived for centuries and perfected her magic. On top of being powerful, she also has great character moments, and her character isn’t stagnant. Fans love Frieren for more than just her powers.

Sakamoto is Another Great Overpowered Main Character

Frieren aside, there is another new gen anime main character who is both overpowered but also a great character. This main character is none other than Taro Sakamoto, the main character of Sakamoto Days. Sakamoto definitely deserves more recognition among anime fans, but the lackluster anime adaptation halts that.

Sakamoto is overpowered in his series. After all, he was known as the world’s best assassin. Current Sakamoto isn’t exactly in his prime anymore, but he is still one of the best in the series. Not only is he strong, but Sakamoto’s story is filled with incredible character development moments, making him quite an endearing character.

Solo Leveling has two seasons out right now, one of 12 episodes, and the other with 13, for a combined episode count of 25 episodes available to watch right now. The series can be streamed on Crunchyroll for fans to enjoy while awaiting any more news concerning the third season. For fans who can’t wait for season 3 to come out, checking out the Manhwa might be a great option.
