Sonic Frontiers managed to beat God of War Ragnarok and Horizon Forbidden West to win a major Japanese gaming award. This is a huge victory for the Sonic Frontiers. Last year, the open-zone adventure was in the running for winning the Player's Voice award at The Game Awards 2022, with candidates including Elden Ring, God of War Ragnarok, and Genshin Impact among others. Despite strong support for Frontiers, Genshin Impact won. The latest award for Frontiers was also user based, though it managed to come up victorious this time around.

Sonic Frontiers won big at the Famitsu Dengeki Game Awards 2022, which covered the entirety of games that were actually released in 2022, with categories such as best voice performance, best gaming character, the game with the best graphics, and so on. The ceremony was held earlier this week, announcing the winners based on user votes. The action-adventure category consisted of Sonic Frontiers, God of War Ragnarok, and Horizon Forbidden West as the nominated games, with Frontiers managing to beat the other two for the award.

One of the big things about this victory is that, historically, the Sonic franchise hasn't been as popular in its home country as opposed to the West. Considering that Sonic Frontiers exceeded its forecasted sales predictions, selling nearly 3 million copies by the end of its fiscal year, this is a major sign that Japanese fans were won over by the game, especially in comparison to critically acclaimed games like Ragnarok and Forbidden West.

The director of Sonic Frontiers, Morio Kishimoto, commented on this momentous victory on Twitter, where he notes that it was a huge honor. He pointed out that before the game's release, the game won at the Japan Game Awards in the Future Division, which was an award received for a game that was highly anticipated by fans who played it at Tokyo Game Show. Kishimoto states that seeing Frontiers win the award from Famitsu was very encouraging, and thanked the many fans for their support. In response, many fans were also excited to see the game win this award, congratulating Kishimoto and Sonic Team.

The official Sonic the Hedgehog Japanese Twitter account stated that there is DLC planned to be coming out this year, all in big free updates. Kishimoto expressed his gratitude by promising that the next update for Sonic Frontiers will be made to reward fans for their continued support. Fans are anticipating that the first DLC Wave for Sonic Frontiers will be dropping soon, likely a part of a Sonic Central event in the near future.

Sonic Frontiers is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
