When it comes to Sonic the Hedgehog, many fans have an attachment to the classic titles that started it all. As Sega re-releases and ports these games, fans expect them to feel just as they did back in the '90s. After only speaking of the compilation once, Sega has just revealed the details of its latest endeavor to make the beloved titles available on current consoles with Sonic Origins.

Sonic Origins was first revealed as part of the Sonic Central that aired in May last year. The announcement of yet another Classic Sonic game collection didn't entice too many fans at first, and Sega fell quiet about the endeavor ever since the initial teaser trailer. However, a recent leak seemed to imply new news on Sonic Origins was to be revealed sooner than fans expected.

Sega has now released a trailer that showcases everything new about Sonic Origins in detail. The trailer instantly grabs viewers' attention with animation stylized after the levels of the older Sonic games. These animations have been teased by the previous leak to be opening and ending animations added to the collection. Before fans can look away, though, the trailer brings in new, impressive gameplay footage of the titles immediately after.

The trailer makes sure to reveal what else Origins offers players, such as the ability to choose between a "Classic Mode" with the original settings, life system, and screen format, and an "Anniversary Mode" that offers tons of new features. Not only does Anniversary Mode feature "coins" rather than lives, but it also seems to let fans play as Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles across the three main numbered titles at the very least.

The trailer concludes by showing the fitting release date of June 23, 2022, as well as a Deluxe Digital Edition offering additional content. According to the website, the game also touts a pre-order bonus of a "Start Dash DLC pack," as well as allowing fans to purchase the Digital Deluxe Edition bonuses separately if they only deserve certain ones. Curiously, the Nintendo Switch version is the only one not available for pre-orders currently.

With the release date being set for Sonic's 31st anniversary, it's possible that it was originally meant to come out for the blue hedgehog's 30th birthday before being hit with delays. However, these delays may be why the game looks as promising as it does, as it may have been held back from releasing for Sonic's 30th just like Sonic Frontiers to ensure a quality product, though that's just speculation at this time.

Sonic Origins is set to release June 23 on PC, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
