Sonic Prime will debut its first episode on Roblox this weekend. Sonic fans have had a lot to enjoy this year with the latest release in the massively popular film series, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, releasing in April, and Sonic Frontiers releasing to surprisingly positive fan reception just last month. Sega is not done with the blue blur this year however, as Sonic Prime is gearing up for release on Netflix next week, and the streaming service has now announced that Roblox players will get to experience the first episode early.

Sonic Prime centers around Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, and Rouge, as the five are sent to random points in the multiverse following an encounter with Dr. Eggman and a mysterious object known as the Paradox Prism. Sonic is forced to work with alternate versions of his friends across multiple universes in order to return home and offset a paradox. The show was first teased in 2020, officially announced in 2021, and will air on Netflix on December 15th.

Roblox Corporation and Netflix have now announced that the first episode of Sonic Prime's eight episode first season will debut on Roblox on December 10th, five full days before the entire season drops on Netflix. The first episode will be available to view in Sonic Speed Simulator, an officially supported Sonic the Hedgehog game built in Roblox. The teaser for the event reveals that Espio the Chameleon might appear in the first episode of the show.

Sonic Prime will be the sixth major Sonic the Hedgehog animated series and is being developed by Ben 10 and Generator Rex creators Man of Action, with Sonic Frontiers and the IDW Sonic the Hedgehog comic book writer Ian Flynn serving as a story consultant. The show caused some controversy upon its reveal due to the decision to recast the entire Sonic the Hedgehog voice cast in accordance with laws prohibiting non-Canadian actors from starring in shows that receive production grants from the Canadian government.

Sonic Prime seems like an exciting new direction for Sonic animated shows, giving fans more of what they enjoyed in shows like Sonic "SatAM" and Sonic X, more narrative-driven and mature storytelling featuring characters from Sega's beloved world. Given the positive reception to Sonic Frontiers' return to a more serious form of storytelling, and the involvement of IDW writer Ian Flynn (albeit merely as a consultant), Sonic Prime could help further push the franchise in a positive reception that is appreciated by both long-time, older fans, and younger newcomers.

Sonic Prime will premiere on Netflix on December 15th.
