Sega has revealed that Apotos and Holoska are coming to Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, giving Sonic Unleashed fans something to look forward to. While Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has big competition to contend with in 2025, the game does not look short on content, as these latest reveals evidence.

Announced at The Games Awards 2024, Sonic Racing: CrossWorld fans received their first look at gameplay in a PlayStation State of Play broadcast on February 12. While a release date for the upcoming game was not revealed, Sega has already given players a chance to test the gameplay via a February network test. During the PS5-exclusive event, players could check out some courses and characters in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. In addition, the CrossWorld feature was showcased, allowing the racer in first place to switch tracks on the second lap of the race.

Mario Kart 9, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Should Inspire One Star Wars Game Reboot

2025 could become the year of kart racers, and that should pave the way for one long-awaited Star Wars video game reboot/spiritual successor.

As players wait for the eventual 2025 release of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, Sega has revealed a couple more courses coming to the game. Specifically, the Apotos and Holoska tracks were shown off in clips on social media. While Apotos will be a main course, Sega noted that Holoska will feature as one of the new CrossWorlds that players will travel to during races. This icy track is visually striking and will likely be a popular choice for Sonic Unleashed fans, as it features auroras and giant whales. Conversely, Apotos looks to recreate the iconic look of Windmill Isle, with scenery and music well-known by fans. Interestingly, the course layout looks very similar to the day stage from the 2008 game.

Holoska and Apotos Gameplay in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds

It is nice to see Sonic Unleashed receive some representation in the upcoming racing game. While some aspects of the adventure, such as the night stages, were controversial, the boost gameplay received praise and has been featured in other titles in the franchise. The game already had good graphics when it was first released in 2008, and the vibrant stages seem to translate well to Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.

While fans wait for an official release date, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds recently received an age rating from the Australian Classification Board. This update likely means the game is still on track for a launch later in 2025, potentially giving it some breathing room from the highly anticipated release of Mario Kart World for the Switch 2 on June 5. While that game has faced controversy regarding its $80 price tag, it will likely be a massive system seller for Nintendo. With that in mind, it will be interesting to see how that could impact potential sales for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds when it eventually releases.
