In Sonic Superstars players might notice a third level hidden behind a Penguin on the World Map, in the area where Acts 1 and 2 of "Bridge Island" can be found. This is the first of the game's "Fruit" stages, which are special levels where players can gain medals and compete against each other for a high score in multiplayer.

Sonic Superstars doesn't go out of its way to explain how to access the Fruit Stages, but players are likely to stumble across the item required to open them as they progress through the game. This guide will explain how to access Fruit Stages and also includes a short video illustrating how the first Fruit Stage plays. Sonic Superstars has a variety of extra stages that can be accessed throughout the game, with "Fruit" stages only being one variety.

Sonic Superstars: How Bonus Stages Work

Sonic Superstars' bonus stages are a callback to Sonic the Hedgehog's special stages, so here's how to access them and how they work.

How to Unlock Act "Fruit"

In order to open Act "Fruit" players will first need to acquire some fruit. This is a rare-ish collectible that can be found in various stages throughout the game, or earned via the roulette wheel that appears at the end of Act 2 in most Zones. If players manage to land the spinner on the Animal Capsule on the "Fruit" icon they will receive a Fruit.

Fruit can be found hidden in out-of-the-way spots in many of the game's stages, encouraging players to thoroughly explore the environment and replay levels to investigate other routes.

While the exact layout varies in each "Fruit" Act, each level requires players to constantly move as a laser barrier advances towards them. While moving through the level the goal is to collect as many rings as possible, both individually scattered around the level and collected en-mass from ring balloons and special targets. The player with the most rings at the end of the Act is the winner.

At the end of the Act is a chest that rewards more rings and a medal. There are also golden Medal Balloons scattered throughout each Act that will reward a medal when popped. This makes Act "Fruit" a fantastic way of getting some extra medals for use in the shop. The video above shows gameplay of the first "Fruit" Act, which is found with the other "Bridge Island" Acts on the World Map.

Sonic Superstars is available for PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
