In the film, Sonic and his pals' conversation made two references to Reynolds career. The first was the mention of Detective Pokémon and Pokemon. Reynolds voiced Detective Pikachu in the live-action film Pokémon: Detective Pikachu in 2019. The mention might be unintentional, but it was hard not to think of Reynolds, especially because the second one was no doubt hinting about the Spirited star.
In the said scene, Sonic jokes about the 2011 Green Lantern starring Reynolds. The titular character describes Gerald Robotnik's giant hand, which was designed using nanotech. According to Sonic, he hasn't seen a hand as massive as that since Green Lantern, a direct reference to Reynolds' DC superhero flick. Sonic mentions the year and title of the movie, so there is no doubt he's pointing to Reynolds. The mere mention could be a swipe at the film, which underperformed at the box office; even Reynolds joked about it. In an interview with his Deadpool & Wolverine co-star Hugh Jackman for Vanity Fair, the latter asked Reynolds if he watched Green Lantern with his family, considering that his wife, Blake Lively, was his onscreen love interest in the film. "I would actually, genuinely, rather watch just a f***ing 24-hour marathon of PAW Patrol, but I have not watched it as a family. My kids have seen the trailer," Reynolds said in response to the question, keeping his aversion from the film.

Reynolds could play Silver, a white-furred hedgehog. Silver is a noble, determined and naive being with psychokinetic powers. Reynolds' wit and humor will be effective in adding comedic timing to Silver's often-serious personality. The actor is also versatile in infusing his roles with emotional moments, since Silver struggles with self-doubt and moral dilemmas. Reynolds has shown his talent in this area in his previous films, The Adam Project and Free Guy. Silver is a misunderstood character since he is a time traveler and comes from a dystopian future. Reynolds' nuanced approach to dialogue can highlight this complexity.
