Sega has released a new trailer for the highly anticipated title Sonic X Shadow Generations, detailing the various Doom Powers that players will be able to utilize. Sonic X Shadow Generations is looking to be more than a mere remake, giving players brand-new powers to bring to bear against fan-favorite villains from the franchise.

Released in 2011, Sonic Generations has been very well received among the franchise's fan base for its expert combination of the classic and modern Sonic formulas in both its storytelling and gameplay. Shadow Generations will reimagine the title in a new light, placing players in the shoes of the ultimate lifeform, Shadow the Hedgehog. Shadow Generations will take players on a joyride through the series, even the less favorable parts of the Sonic franchise, recreating iconic moments from past games for a modern audience. With Shadow's story taking center stage this time around, Shadow Generations acts as part sequel, part spin-off to the original game that aims to give fans more of what they loved.

In a new trailer released on the official Sonic YouTube page, fans were shown the new Doom Powers that Shadow will have access to. These powers come from his link to Black Doom, who serves as Shadow Generations' overarching antagonist. With these powers, Shadow has access to various new abilities.

Shadow's Doom Powers In Sonic X Shadow Generations Revealed

  • Doom Spears: Launch up to five projectiles upon enemies at range.
  • Doom Blast: Launch enemies in any direction, including up and through destructible terrain.
  • Doom Morph: Use a new movement set that utilizes grappling and sticking to walls.
  • Doom Wings: Fly through the air
  • Doom Surf: Surf and soar over water

As well as showing off the various new powers Shadow will use, the trailer also gave fans a glimpse of some of the locations present in Shadow Generations. The standout seen throughout the trailer is the reveal of Metal Overlord, the antagonist of Sonic Heroes. Sonic Heroes is one of the most beloved Sonic games from the classic era, especially for its depiction of a more ruthless Metal Sonic, so to see representation of that game in the form of Metal Sonic's transformation has gamers incredibly excited.

Fans have also noticed the inclusion of Chaos Island in the trailer, a location from the more recently released Sonic Frontiers. Shadow Generations is set to run parallel to the original story of Sonic Generations, so the inclusion of Chaos Island here shows that Shadow will not be restricted to games that were released before Sonic Generations. The reveal that Shadow's journey took him to the future has fans fascinated about where else his story could go.

Sega will be present at Gamescom 2024, where fans will be able to get a hands-on look at Sonic X Shadow Generations before its official launch on October 25, as well as photo opportunities with the Sonic mascot. During this time, Sega will also be unveiling a new game, though the name of this mystery title has not yet been announced.
