Sonic X Shadow Generations is a loving tribute to Sonic and Shadow's history, and this extends to the optional skins available to players who preordered the game and/or purchased the Digital Deluxe edition. Players who preordered the game can swap out Sonic for his Sonic Adventure 2 character model, while owners of the Digital Deluxe Edition can swap Shadow for his early design "Terios."
Sonic X Shadow Generations doesn't explain how to equip these alternate skins though, which can cause some confusion and quite a bit of time searching the menus. This guide will explain how you can equip both skins and talk a little about their origins and design inspirations.
All Doom Powers in Shadow Generations, Ranked
Sonic X Shadow Generations gives Shadow the Hedgehog five Doom abilities. While all are useful, some are more fun to master than others.
How to Change Skins in Sonic X Shadow Generations
To Change Skins, start on the main screen for the game, where you can choose between Sonic Generations or Shadow Generations. In the lower left of the screen, there will be a button prompt to access "Additional Content." Hit the button indicated to open a menu where you can toggle any of the Additional Content you have access to, such as the alternate skins for Sonic and Shadow. Once you've made the adjustments you want to make, load one of the games to see them in action.
The Sonic Adventure Skin in Sonic X Shadow Generations
This Skin is pretty self-explanatory, though it's still a treat to see in motion. This skin swaps out Modern Sonic's usual appearance for his iconic Sonic Adventure design, with an appropriately low number of polygons for the sake of authenticity. This is the model used for him in Sonic Adventure, with one of his Level-Up Items, the "Ring of Light", around one wrist. In Sonic Adventure, this was an optional item that halved the time needed to execute the Light Speed Dash and Light Speed Attack.
This Skin is available as a preorder bonus.
The Terios Skin in Sonic X Shadow Generations
This Skin is a bit of a deeper cut than the Sonic Adventure skin, drawing from some of Shadow's old concept art. Terios was an early design for Shadow when the character was first conceived, though it was ultimately succeeded by the design we're familiar with today. He was loosely inspired by the Marvel Anti-Hero "Spawn", who was experiencing a surge of popularity in the USA at the time Shadow was being designed. While this design ultimately went unused in favor of Shadow's current design, it remains a fascinating part of the character's history that Sega have chosen to include in this game, similar to how Sonic's earlier rabbit design was available as a skin in Sonic Superstars.
This Skin is available to anyone who purchases the Digital Deluxe edition of Sonic X Shadow Generations.
