The Sonic franchise has grown a lot in recent years, with a string of recent game releases, a successful film franchise continuing to draw in audiences, and even an expanded line of buildable LEGO sets that will seemingly only keep growing with time. While the video game series has seen inconsistent review scores and sales numbers in the past, recent releases have seemed to prove the franchise's lasting legacy on gamers overall.
Sonic X Shadow Generations Free DLC Available Now
Sonic X Shadow Generations is giving players access to some free DLC content that was previously exclusive to a special pre-release offer.
The latest release in the video game series is seemingly no exception, as Sega president Shuji Utsumi revealed in a recent press release that Sonic X Shadow Generations has surpassed over 2 million units sold across all platforms. This data from Sega includes both physical and digital sales of the game across the PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC versions.
Sonic X Shadow Generations Enjoys Continued Success
Doubling as a new experience and a remaster of a fan-favorite title, Sonic X Shadow Generations brings back the original Sonic Generations with updated visuals and quality-of-life improvements alongside a brand-new playable campaign featuring Shadow as the protagonist. The original game has players controlling both Classic Sonic and his modern iteration in 2D and 3D levels, while the Shadow campaign features all-new levels combining both play styles with unique abilities and a never-before-seen storyline.
Utsumi also celebrated the success of the feature film Sonic The Hedgehog 3, which was released late last year and thrived at the box office, pulling in over $400 million, making it the most successful film entry to date. In response to the success of the film and Sonic X Shadow Generations, Utsumi also announced that Sega is dedicating this coming year to Shadow the Hedgehog, who features prominently in both properties, with a slew of content promoting the character set to come.
