Marvel's Wolverine could make an appearance at a Sony State of Play later this year, according to anonymous insider sources. Insomniac Games and Sony have both been relatively quiet about the upcoming superhero title after announcing it, but the wait for more information may be over before too long. While nothing is certain for now, there's word that a new Marvel's Wolverine trailer will arrive soon.

Insomniac first announced the game in September 2021, though the initial trailer revealed little more than the fact that the studio was working on a Wolverine title. Since then, though, news has been sparse. Insomniac recently confirmed that it's "actively working" on Marvel's Wolverine for PS5, but that it would not share updates beyond that until it's ready to. While that answer may be purposefully vague, some think more information is on the way.

Insiders Say Marvel's Wolverine Will Be at the Next State of Play

Supposed inside sources have told Insider Gaming that Marvel's Wolverine is "almost certainly" going to be at Sony's next State of Play. According to those anonymous sources, Insomniac has finished work on the next trailer for the game and that the company is ready to give information-hungry fans another update. The rumor also says the event will take place toward the end of September. While PlayStation already held a 007 First Light- centric State of Play on September 3, the company has run multiple State of Play events in a single month before, so a second one coming later this month is not out of the question.

The supposed insiders did not offer any insight into the game or its timeline beyond the trailer premiering at the next State of Play. A 2023 data breach revealed that Insomniac was aiming to release Marvel's Wolverine in 2026, with Spider-Man 3 coming a year after. Even if that leak was true at the time, though, things might have changed since then. A more recent rumor pointed to 2027 as a release window for the game. While six years is a long time to wait between the first announcement and the game finally coming out, it's certainly not unheard of.

Marvel's Wolverine may not be the only hotly anticipated game Sony shows off at its next State of Play. There are plenty of rumors that Santa Monica Studio is working on the next God of War game, and others have suggested that a metroidvania God of War spin-off could be in the works, too. Either game would be big news for PlayStation fans, and Bungie's Marathon is always a possibility, too. Still, nothing is confirmed for now, so gamers will need to wait on official information from Sony or any of the game studios to know for sure.
