Summary
- Hundreds of South Park fans are signing a petition over the show's jump to Paramount+.
- There is some concern that 17 South Park episodes will be unavailable on Paramount+.
- This has yet to be clarified, but fans are still worried.
A South Park petition hoping to keep episodes from getting banned when the cartoon jumps from HBO Max to Paramount+ on July 1 is nearing 1,000 signatures. South Park is one of the most popular animated series of all time, with the award-winning show also proving to be highly controversial over the years. South Park's ruthlessness and willingness to tackle taboo subjects has resulted in some episodes being pulled from syndication and outright banned on streaming platforms.
Indeed, there are multiple South Park episodes missing from the show's current streaming home, HBO Max. Certain episodes of the show are only available to those that have the DVDs or Blu-Rays handy, and there has been no indication that they will ever make a comeback on any streamer. Now there is some concern among South Park fans that even more of the show's episodes will be harder to come by, as the jump to Paramount+ might hit even more episodes with the ban hammer.
10 Best South Park Characters, Ranked
Which characters in the iconic animated sitcom South Park are considered the best?
The concern comes from the fact that, internationally, South Park is already available on Paramount+, and there are fewer episodes available there compared to HBO Max. In fact, there are 17 banned South Park episodes on Paramount+, including some of the show's best, like Simpsons Did It, Cancelled, Trapped in the Closet, the Cartoon Wars two-parter, and more. It has not been clarified by Paramount+ if the US version of the streaming service will ban the same episodes, and so fans should keep that in mind. However, there are those that are worried about the situation and have started a petition on Change.org asking the streamer not to ban any of the episodes. The petition has amassed nearly 1,000 signatures at the time of this writing with new people adding their names regularly.
In a Reddit post about the petition, many of the comments have pushed back against the idea of signing it, pointing out how these Change.org petitions rarely result in any meaningful change from media companies. Comments have suggested that the best way to deal with the situation if these South Park episodes are truly banned when the show comes to Paramount+ in the US is to simply vote with their wallet and not sign up or cancel their exciting sub.

South Park fans who have cut the cord may find that more difficult to do than others. South Park Season 27 is set to premiere on July 9, with new episodes available the day-after on Paramount+.
