Space Marine 2 has a heavy emphasis on melee combat, with a full dueling system that lets players focus on 1v1s with larger enemies such as Tyranid Warriors. When fighting the Tyranids, taking down larger enemies is key to breaking Synapse and killing the swarm of smaller units.

Players are given multiple options such as blocking or parrying to counter incoming attacks, but enemies can also block. Tyranid Warriors will hold their weapons in a cross in front of them, blocking incoming damage. Here's how to break that block instead of waiting for them to attack you.

How To Break Block In Space Marine 2

It is possible to break an enemy's block by attacking them enough times with a melee weapon or unloading many shots from a ranged weapon into them, but this can quickly drain your ammo reserves as even a Melta won't break their block in a single shot. The best method for breaking an enemy's block is:

  • Grenades
  • Flanking
  • Power Attacks from a melee weapon.

The first two methods can be hit or miss as using an explosive grenade requires you to have one on hand and be willing to use it against a single enemy. Enemies that are blocking only absorb damage from the front, so flanking them and shooting or attacking their side and back also works but requires their AI to target another Space Marine. The most reliable method is by using power attacks with your melee weapon. Power Attacks also offer high damage and some have a large area of effect, making them incredibly efficient.

How To Perform Power Attacks

Every melee weapon has a list of attacks and combos that can be seen when opening the main menu while that weapon is equipped. In that list will be multiple attacks with a broken shield icon next to the button combination, indicating a power attack that breaks block, no matter the defensive style of the weapon. Each melee weapon has multiple power attacks that break blocks, and it's up to you to try them all and find which one you like best for your melee play style.

Performing a heavy attack can also interrupt a call for reinforcements.

The Right Melee Weapon For Breaking Block In Space Marine 2

Every melee weapon has power attacks that can break an enemy's block, though the Power Sword and Chainsword are the best options. The Combat Knife is great for one-on-one fights, though that rarely happens and players will often be faced with multiple enemies blocking at once. The Thunder Hammer may be the best weapon against swarms of enemies, but the slow swing speed makes it more ineffective when trying to target down a single enemy that has a faster attack speed.
