Summary

  • Space Marine 2 has new content drops like the Trygon update for PVE, but PVP updates lack attention.
  • Leaks have hinted at potential updates like Horde Mode, Chaos customization, and new classes.
  • Fans can anticipate new features will be revealed on May 22 at the Warhammer Skulls Showcase.

One of the unexpected big hits of 2024, Space Marine 2 surprised many new and old Warhammer 40K fans with its simple but stylish action mechanics and grimdark theme. Saber Interactive has looked to satisfy the game’s community with further content drops, bringing new additions such as Space Marine 2’s Trygon update, fleshing out the PVE experience. While PVP has had a couple of minor updates adding new weapons and a new map, it has not received the same attention as the Operations, and popular fan-requested features are still missing.

There has been plenty of speculation about what Space Marine 2 could and should add, and with a long time until Space Marine 3, the new content could become quite varied. From new missions, to new classes, even perhaps to a whole new faction, Space Marine 2’s sandbox would benefit from some really bold new updates to get its player base re-engaged.

The Illuminate complete Helldivers 2’s three faction structure, and now Space Marine 2 needs to respond with a big content drop of its own.

Space Marine 2 Fans Should Check Out the Warhammer Skulls Showcase on May 22

It seems as though the curtain will be pulled back on some new features very soon, as on May 22, Saber Interactive will be taking part in the Skulls showcase. Run by Games Workshop, the IP holder of Warhammer 40,000, Skulls is a yearly licensed video game show that gives a platform to developers working with Warhammer. While the games on the banner will all be getting updates, Games Workshop has teased some new games, with a recent leak starting rumors about the return of Dawn of War.

What New Content the Skulls Showcase Could Reveal for Space Marine 2

Horde Mode

The wave-based survival mode has been teased by Saber since release, but the developer has remained tight-lipped about it. A recent Space Marine 2 leak lifted the lid on some Horde Mode mechanics, including summonable NPC Dreadnoughts, and a points-based reward system based on performing side objectives. As a long-awaited feature supposed to arrive soon, hopefully Saber shows it off.

New Content Roadmap

The first seasonal roadmap will come to an end with Horde Mode’s release, meaning Saber will surely want to release a new one to keep the hype train going. With the first year spent on adding a lot of necessary and quality of life changes, the second year of updates to Space Marine 2 could add some exciting changes, such as the popularly requested Chaos Space Marine PVE Operations.

New Classes

In the same datamine as Horde Mode, a few small details dropped about a potential Techmarine class. Players have found many unique and unused weapons in the game files since launch, which so far have not been used. While some of these could be part of Horde Mode, some players have guessed they could be attached to an entirely new class. There are all sorts of avenues left to explore with new classes, and they could form the bedrock of sizeable content drops in Space Marine 2’s second year.

Chaos Customization

One of the most requested items, and heavily leaked items, is Chaos customization for PVP. With Saber’s priorities set on making as much of the content offering relevant to all players, it's understandable that Chaos customization has been put on the back burner, as they are only playable in PVP. However, it would make playing Chaos feel much more rewarding, and due to earlier datamines, it’s known to be in the files. Skulls would be a great opportunity to show players that it’s on the way, and check off a big wish list item.
