Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is one of the most popular titles of 2024, and it seems that the future is bright for the title, particularly on the PS5 Pro. Space Marine 2 already has impressive graphics, but hopes are that several new features of the PS5 Pro will take the game's visuals to the next level.

The PS5 Pro is Sony's newest console, scheduled to release on November 7, and makes use of a range of cutting-edge technologies including AI-upscaling for both graphics and frame rates. PlayStation has claimed that the console will be "the most visually impressive" way to experience games on PlayStation, however many fans and developers alike have expressed concerns regarding the PS5 Pro's high price point and lack of a physical disc drive. Other developers are more optimistic about the PS5 Pro.

In an IGN interview, the studio's Chief Creative Officer, Tim Willits, expressed his optimism for the future of the game's performance on the upcoming PS5 Pro, with particular reference to frame rates and the Pro's new PSSR feature. "What I'm excited about is the AI upscaling of the graphics," he said, "I have my kickass AMD machine (...) And the game looks f***ing great. But when I play on the PS5, I play performance."

Space Marine 2 Could Be Taken To The Next Level With PSSR

Willits went on to explain the Xbox Series X typically outperforms its PS5 counterpart by around 10-15 FPS, despite both targeting the same settings and resolution. These issues were particularly prevalent in very demanding scenes, such as the appearance of large hordes of enemies or using the flamethrower. Much like Nvidia's DLSS and AMD's Fluid Motion Frames, the PS5 Pro's PSSR frame generation is expected to provide significantly higher frame rates, without any noticeable loss in quality or resolution.

While admitting to not being a technical guru, Willits went on to express his hope that, even on the PS5 Pro's Performance Mode, Space Marine 2 will look better than the current console's Quality mode. The PS5 Pro's improved GPU will also provide an increase in graphical capabilities for the console, meaning that, combined with the higher frame rates of PSSR, Space Marine 2 could look better than ever on the upcoming console. However, as yet no plans have been made to bring the game to the PS5 Pro Enhanced list.

Space Marine 2 continues to enjoy plenty of success, DLC and major updates on the horizon. Either way, players can be sure that the developers are doing everything possible to ensure that the game will be at the forefront of innovation when it comes to graphics and performance. Whether or not this will matter so much to players remains to be seen, as Space Marine 2 is selling well around the globe and the game is being met with largely positive reviews as it is already.
