A hilarious new mod makes the grim and violent world of Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 universe a little brighter, giving the game's PvE mission a Thomas the Tank Engine makeover. Instead of escorting a futuristic fusion battery, this new mod tasks the player with protecting and guiding Thomas himself along a track in one of Space Marine 2's PvE missions. This is just the latest in a slew of mods made by fans of Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2, a game that has recently received chunks of new official content as well.

Using the original Space Marine video game from 2011 as a launching-off point, Space Marine 2 has already seemingly cemented itself as a classic, at least for fans of the Warhammer 40K universe. Released in September 2024, Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 offers fans an upgrade in practically every way, coming equipped with impressive visuals, even more satisfying gameplay, and an expanded array of foes to slaughter. Fighting remains king in Space Marine 2, with the game also featuring its own PvP mode, though players who want to team up for PvE missions can now give their game a Thoms the Tank Engine makeover.

Thomas the Tank Engine is now officially in Space Marine 2 thanks to a new mod by Tom of Warhammer Workshop, which replaces the game's fusion battery model with one that resembles the classic talking locomotive. Once properly downloaded and installed, Thomas can be seen in Space Marine 2's PvE mode, specifically the Ballistic Engine mission, which tasks players with escorting Thomas along a track. "Steel yourselves, warriors," says Tom, cheekily warning players that once they see Thomas, there's no going back. "The train has no brakes."

It's a sure sign that a game has "made it" when it gets its own Thomas the Tank Engine mod, as fans have seen the bright blue locomotive arrive in numerous other popular video games over the years, like Skyrim and Elden Ring. The mod's creator, Tom, also alluded to another creation he's working on, one that involves a notable green ogre that lives in a swamp. Other notable mods for Space Marine 2 include visual upgrades and tweaks, as well as adding the option to play campaign missions in Operations.

As stated earlier, Space Marine 2 has also received a plethora of official content from developer Saber Interactive, with the last few months being especially exciting for fans of the game. Space Marine 2 launched its highly anticipated 6.0 update earlier this year, which added a number of new features for players to explore. This includes a new enemy type as well as a new PvP map. Plenty more content is on the horizon for Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 going into 2025, with the game adopting a live-service, seasonal model, something that has become the standard for online-based games.
