Lewis Pullman In Talks To Star In Spaceballs 2 Alongside Bill Pullman
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lewis Pullman is currently in negotiations to star alongside his father Bill Pullman in Spaceballs 2. The publication reported that Lewis Pullman's character will be Lone Star and Queen Vespa's (Daphne Zugina) son Starburst. Zuniga, whose other credits include soap opera-esque TV dramas such as Melrose Place and One Tree Hill, is also appearing in the sequel.
Lewis Pullman recently made a big impression as Robert Reynolds/Sentry in Thunderbolts*, and he will also play the same role in Avengers: Doomsday, which has been moved to a new release date of December 18th, 2026. Lewis also has several other big movies on his resume, including Top Gun: Maverick, Salem's Lot, and the 2018 slasher movie The Strangers: Prey At Night. He has also played some memorable TV roles, including researcher Calvin Evans in the Apple TV+ adaptation of Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus.
Spaceballs 2 had some other recent exciting casting announcements. Keke Palmer is playing a new character, and there are some familiar faces, too. Fans enjoyed watching Mel Brooks announce his return in an entertaining video. Brooks will play the unforgettable character Yogurt once again. Rick Moranis is also coming out of retirement to play Dark Helmet.
While Bill Pullman has had an exciting career that has seen him appearing in every possible genre, from the adorable children's movie Casper to the romantic comedy While You Were Sleeping and the procedural show The Sinner, fans always appreciate his quirky turn in Spaceballs. It would definitely be memorable to see Bill and Lewis play a father and son in Spaceballs 2.
In a 30th anniversary interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Bill shared some funny stories from the set of Spaceballs, and also shared how inspiring it was to work with Brooks. He said:
“Mel had this thing where he said 10 percent of anything is good. It was this way of saying that in art and being creative there are things you have to brush off, suggestions, ideas, whatever to get to that 10 percent that is really good. It’s that idea of looking for the exceptional, and knowing it is rare, and you have to always be aware of how hard you have to look for that 10 percent.”
Spaceballs 2 was announced in June 2024, and Josh Gad, Dan Hernandez, and Benji Samit are co-writers. Josh Greenbaum, whose recent film credits include Strays and Will & Harper, is directing. Since it's been several decades since the original movie was released, fans are definitely excited to revisit this singular world again. Spaceballs was so popular that a fan even made a version of the Eagle 5 spaceship in the game Starfield.
Spaceballs 2 will be in theaters in 2027.
