The recent news that Bill's son Lewis Pullman could play his character's son is just as exciting. Spaceballs 2's Title Should Reflect One Of The Most Memorable (And Timely) Jokes

Spaceball's characters once joked about a sequel title, and the real Spaceballs 2 needs to use it. When Lone Starr asks, "I wonder, will we ever see each other again?" Yogurt says:

"Who knows? God willing, we'll all meet again in Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money."

This needs to be the sequel's title for two reasons: to pay off a 30-year-old joke and to reflect the Hollywood trend of studios hoping to make money from nostalgic sequels.

While nostalgia is a big thing in the horror genre, from the Scary Movie reboot with its goofy tone to the I Know What You Did Last Summer legacy sequel coming in summer 2025, movie studios always want to profit from a franchise that has an existing, built-in fanbase. It makes sense from a business perspective to make Spaceballs 2, and, of course, there are plenty of fans who have been ready and waiting. Spaceballs is known for its quirky takedown of Star Wars, and it would make sense for Spaceballs 2 to joke about sequels. This could be an interesting framework for the story as all of the main characters could have a different opinion on whether it's a good idea to keep going with a franchise or if the original film should always be left alone.

It also seems logical to call the movie Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money since it's been 38 years since the original movie was released. While of course there are many fans who know the movie inside and out, and there's no doubt that many will rewatch it before the sequel comes out, using this joke again would be a nice way to remind audiences of story's tone.

Several fans are hopeful that this old joke will be included in the upcoming movie. In a Reddit thread from a year ago when the sequel was announced, Redditor @REQ52767 wrote:

"If it isn’t officially titled, “Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money”, then this was all for nothing."

"It better be called "The search for more money" or I am going to be disappointed."

Mel Brooks Once Said He Wasn't Sure About Making A Spaceballs 2

While fans are no doubt glad that they will get to see another Star Wars parody movie, it wasn't always a sure bet. In 2013, Mel Brooks gave a fascinating interview to Entertainment Weekly about Spaceballs, and he answered a question about continuing the story. He said:

"Fox tried to bribe me to do Spaceballs 2, but I always said no. I don’t want in any way to compete with the movie or hurt it. And as a musical, I don’t think I could do better [than the movie]."

Although there is no official release date yet, Spaceballs 2 will be released in theaters in 2027, so fans have a long time to wonder about the exact title.
