Summary
- The popular character Spawn is being added to Mortal Kombat Mobile.
- Spawn will appear in the mobile title as Tormented Soul Spawn, a Diamon Tier, Nomad Class character who wields the power of Necroplasm.
- Later this year, Mortal Kombat Mobile will add MK1 Kenshi to the roster.
Former Mortal Kombat guest character Spawn is making his long-awaited return to the franchise, albeit in the Mortal Kombat Mobile spin-off rather than Mortal Kombat 1. NetherRealm’s Mortal Kombat games have featured special guest appearances from comics, movies, and other video games, ranging from God of War’s Kratos being a PlayStation-exclusive DLC character in 2011’s Mortal Kombat 9 to Omni-Man, Peacemaker, and Homelander enforcing their twisted brands of justice in Mortal Kombat 1.
Todd McFarlane’s legendary anti-hero Spawn already had his own rich history in video games by the time he was included as a guest DLC combatant in Mortal Kombat 11, having previously appeared in the Xbox version of Soulcalibur 2. In Mortal Kombat 11, however, Spawn retained his brutal nature as an undead solider armed with the power of the underworld, with Keith David reprising his role from the HBO Spawn animated series from the 1990s. Spawn would later turn up as a playable skin in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, but MK fans have been hoping to see him return to their favorite fighting franchise.
Mortal Kombat 1 is Revamping Takeda's Backstory
Mortal Kombat 1's Takeda Takahashi is getting a new backstory in the game's rebooted timeline, as revealed in a recently released character bio.
Mortal Kombat Mobile’s newest summer update adds “Tormented Soul Spawn” as a Diamond Tier, Nomad Class character armed with the power of Necroplasm. Just like his appearance in Mortal Kombat 11, Spawn is voiced by Keith David, and he has plenty of demonic attacks to inflict unholy punishment on his enemies. For example, his Hellraiser Passive move can generate Necroplasm energy over time, which can be used to either heal Spawn and his teammates or injure his foes with devastating counterattacks.
Spawn Returns In Mortal Kombat Mobile’s New Summer Update
Spawn’s arrival in the newest Mortal Kombat Mobile update also brings plenty of other infernal challenges and bonuses. The Hellspawn Tower challenge is being held from July 17 to August 28 and allows players to challenge demonic opponents like Boss Tormented Soul Spawn and Scorpion's 'Hellspawn' variant to unlock special new Hellspawn Tower-themed equipment. The more challenging Fatal Hellspawn Tower will be available between July 24 to August 21, and participants can increase their chances of unlocking Diamond characters like Tormented Soul Spawn or Circle of Shadow Nightwolf.
Some non-demonic bonuses in the new Mortal Kombat Mobile include new Friendship and Brutality moves for characters like Kano and Kenshi, Fusion Up Kards that can be used to combine Kombatants and Equipment, and free gifts like the “Spawn Goes to Con” bundle that unlocks signature Equipment, K7-Leetha, 100 Souls, and 50 Dragon Krystals just for logging in between July 25 to July 29. Later in the year, the Mortal Kombat 1 version of Kenshi will be added to Mortal Kombat’s mobile spin-off, just as his cousin Takeda is set to make his MK 1 debut as a DLC guest character.
