One of the PlayStation 2's well-received titles from 2003, Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy, has received a remastered version on the PS4. Besides the PS2, the original version of Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy was also released on Xbox and GameCube, whereas its remaster was first made available on PC and Switch.

Originally developed by Eurocom and remastered by THQ Nordic, Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy is a third-person action-adventure game with puzzle and platforming elements. It is set in Ancient Egypt and follows the journey of the Sphinx and Tutankhamun as they try to overcome the challenges posed by Set, an Egyptian god. The PS2-era game was remastered and rolled out on Steam in 2017, 14 years after its initial release, before it eventually made its way to the Switch in 2019. Over seven years after its PC launch, the remastered take has now landed on a modern PlayStation console, with an Xbox counterpart waiting in the wings.

The PS2 has one of the best libraries in all of gaming. Here are some of its most impressive titles of all time.

In a surprise move, THQ Nordic ported Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy to PS4 on April 1, making it accessible to modern audiences on Sony's platform. Interested gamers can dive right into the vintage title by purchasing it on the PS Store for $14.99. The publisher also shared that it is next set to bring Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy's Egyptian tale to Xbox One on April 15. Alongside the arrival of the game's PS4 port, the devs also posted a trailer, showing the two main playable characters going up against various foes and completing environmental puzzles. Intriguingly, this trailer appears to be more or less the same as the one that was released for its Switch port over five years ago.

Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy Makes a Surprise Leap to PS4

The advent of classic games, such as Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy, on modern-day systems is favorable to the overall gaming community as it preserves the title for future generations. Reviving old games with a fresh port not only allows existing fans to play them again conveniently but also offers potential newcomers a chance to try those games out for themselves. Fortunately, there has been notable positive activity on this front, with platforms like GOG running their own game preservation programs, giving players access to their favorite old games.

Meanwhile, THQ Nordic has been busy with the sequel to its 2018 demolition derby racing game Wreckfest. On March 20, the devs kicked off the paid early access period for Wreckfest 2, which is priced at USD 11.99, enabling players on Steam to help shape the game before its full release across PC and current-gen consoles.

Sphinx and The Cursed Mummy is an original 3rd person action-adventure inspired by the mythology of ancient Egypt. Travelling the world via magical portals to foil the evil plans of Set. Sphinx's Journey will require all his wits, agility, and special powers. He will also rely on his reluctant hero friend, The Mummy, to help when being inconspicuous is the only solution. By finding the stolen magical crowns of Egypt, Sphinx can stop Set and save the world.

The legend says that two forces, one negative, one positive, are trying to recover the old empire and all of its crowns again. But we know very little about these forces or if they really exist. Other people are simply trying to understand what happened and the real nature of each world. Meanwhile each world continues with it’s own way and history.

Recently, strange things have been happening… News is received from many places that problems are appearing; the normally peaceful villages are now at war, odd monsters appear in valleys where there was once placid ecology... Nobody knows why…
