- Leaked information suggests that Insomniac may release Marvel's Spider-Man 3 in 2028, the same year that the PS6 is rumored to launch.
- Other leaked plans indicate that Insomniac will release Venom in 2025, Wolverine in 2026, and a new Ratchet & Clank game in 2029.
- If it's not a PS6 exclusive, it's possible that Spider-Man 3 could be a cross-gen game, released for both the PS5 and PS6, or it could be a PS5 exclusive and serve as a swan song for the console.
Leaked information about Insomniac's future plans suggest the inevitable Marvel's Spider-Man 3 game will potentially be released for the PlayStation 6 instead of the PS5. Insomniac has been on an absolute roll with its Marvel universe games, releasing Marvel's Spider-Man, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Spider-Man 2 to rave reviews from fans and critics alike. Miles Morales was even a launch title for the PS5, so it stands to reason that Insomniac could be looking to do something similar with Spider-Man 3 and the eventual PS6.
A recent ransomware attack leaked information about Insomniac's future games. Plans can always change, but if the leaks are accurate, Insomniac is supposedly going to release a Venom video game in 2025, followed by Wolverine in 2026, Spider-Man 3 in 2028, a new Ratchet & Clank game in 2029, and finally, an X-Men game in 2030. Time will tell if that all plays out as expected, but with the PS6 expected to drop in 2028 or thereabouts, there is a distinct possibility Spider-Man 3 will be aiming for release on the new console.
Microsoft's court battle with the FTC revealed that the next Sony console won't be coming until after 2027, with many believing that the PS6 will be released in 2028. If that's true, it stands to reason that Sony and Insomniac would position Spider-Man 3 as a launch title for the new system. After all, Spider-Man 2 has enjoyed incredible sales success, and so it's easy to see how Spider-Man 3 would be a popular-enough launch title to convince fans to buy the new system.
Insomniac's Next 5 Games (According to Leaks)
- Venom - 2025
- Wolverine - 2026
- Spider-Man 3 - 2028
- Ratchet & Clank - 2029
- X-Men - 2030
Alternatively, Spider-Man 3 could be a cross-gen game that's released for both PS5 and PS6 at the same time. Miles Morales was a cross-gen game, and many PlayStation-published titles in the first few years of the PS5's life were cross-gen as well, including heavy hitters like Horizon Forbidden West and God of War Ragnarok. The PS5 will have a massive install base by the time 2028 comes around, and so Sony would potentially be leaving a ton of money on the table by having Spider-Man 3 release as a PS6 exclusive.
Of course, it's possible Spider-Man 3 will release exclusively for PS5 and skip the PS6 entirely, or at least, not come to the new system until some time after its launch. Spider-Man 3 could instead be the PS5's swan song, putting itself in a position similar to what The Last of Us Part 2 was for the PS4. While Sony could have waited a few months and launched Last of Us Part 2 for PS5, it instead opted to launch the game as one of the PS4's last true exclusives before it started sharing games with PS5. The same could happen with Spider-Man 3 in 2026, but fans will just have to wait and see what happens.
