Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to come swinging into cinemas on July 31, 2026, and with production slated to begin this summer, things are starting to ramp up for this movie. So far, details about the overall plot and who the villain will be are being kept relatively quiet. However, Stranger Things star Sadie Sink has been confirmed as a new member of the cast.
It's unknown who she will portray in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but her arrival is expected to be one of many new characters as Peter Parker is expected to be moving to college. While there's a lot of excitement about the new changes being made to the web-slinging franchise, it is seemingly going to come at a price for some of the original cast.
Marvel Must Be Careful Not To Tease Something That Can’t Be Delivered With Spider-Man
Marvel is taking a risk wth its recent Spider-Man teasers, as they might not be able to deliver.
According to industry insider MyTimeToShineHello, Jacob Batalon is set to have a significantly reduced role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. His character, Ned Leeds, is currently slated to only make a cameo appearance, according to the most recent draft of the script, which will see him only barely appear. This will be a drastic change as Ned has been a key character in the previous three Spider-Man movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as he has been shown as Parker's best friend. He's one of the few people who has always been aware of his Spider-Man alias, keeping it a secret for him while also aiding the superhero in many of his adventures, offering his help and support due to his intelligence.
Having Ned take on a reduced role is in line with the reports that have claimed Zendaya is also expected to have a smaller part to play in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. MJ has been Parker's girlfriend throughout the trilogy but following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, neither MJ nor Ned remembers who Parker is. The spell that Doctor Strange cast at the end of that movie wiped away any memory of him for people; therefore, it makes sense that they would have reduced roles this time around. Whether Parker is going to push to try and make them recall their past will remain to be seen.
However, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been dealing with script drama recently, so things could change between now and when the movie is shot. It was previously revealed that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige disapproved of the original script he was handed, giving it a thumbs down. It led to the writing team working on the story again, with Marvel Studios striving for the best quality possible. This is an issue that is also plaguing Avengers: Doomsday's current production, as the script for that movie has also not been completed despite them already starting production.
With Parker expected to be taken in a new direction with the fourth installment of the standalone franchise, there is the possibility of a lot of change. Marvel Studios has done a good job with the popular hero to this point, with Tom Holland proving to be a popular choice for the titular role. However, Spider-Man: Brand New Day seems set to be Marvel's biggest test to date with the character, as they roll the dice on significantly switching up the cast.
