Sony has finally revealed that Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered will be available as a standalone game this month, while also detailing an upgrade path for owners of the original game. Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered is an upgraded version of the PS4 game, featuring improved visuals, ray-traced reflections, and a performance mode for 60 FPS gameplay.
Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered was only available as a part of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition, so owners of the PS4 game could not upgrade to this version without buying the bundle. In a new blog post, Sony now reveals that a standalone version of Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered will be available soon, and users with a copy of the base game can also choose to upgrade to this version.
Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered will be available as a standalone purchase in May 2023 for $49.99. Owners of the PS4 version of Marvel’s Spider-Man will be able to upgrade to the remastered edition for $10 when it launches, while Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales players can obtain Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered by upgrading to its ultimate edition from the game's main menu. It should be noted that this offer is valid for owners of both digital and physical versions of Marvel’s Spider-Man, as Sony has shared a handy image that makes it clear.
However, fans who redeemed any edition of Marvel’s Spider-Man through PlayStation Plus will not be eligible for this upgrade. Users that fall in this category can choose to buy the remastered edition for $49.99, or they can get the PS4 version of Marvel’s Spider-Man for cheap before going for the upgrade. Sony offered a similar upgrade path for Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, so this appears to be the standard practice for first-party games.
Players should note that Marvel’s Spider-Man will soon be removed from PS Plus Extra and Premium, and it’s one of several games leaving the service in May 2023. Perhaps Sony will decide to add Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered to PS Plus in the future, but it seems to be only available as a paid upgrade for now.
Sony also took this opportunity to reiterate that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will release this fall on PS5. While it doesn’t have a said release date, developer Insomniac Games seems confident about the game meeting its set launch date, and it will probably reveal more from Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 at the next major PlayStation Showcase event.
Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered is available now on PC and PS5.
