It’s a brand new day for Spider-Man in the MCU, and Tom Holland’s return to the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man can be celebrated by all, but it’s also an ominous reminder that with a great hero, there must also come a great villain. As such, there are plenty of amazing Spider-Man villains that have yet to feature as a main antagonist in a live-action movie that could really make Spider-Man 4 something special.

Best Spider-Man Animated Series, Ranked

There have been many attempts to make the best Spider-Man animated series, but which of them were Marvel's most successful?

1

With details on Spider-Man: Brand New Day closely guarded, it’s hard to tell who the villain could be, but based on what’s been set up in the MCU and the title alone, there are a few hints as to who the villain could be, and which of them has the potential to face Spidey in his fourth solo movie.

6 Mister Negative

A Dual Identity For Helping Citizens and Punishing Them

  • First Appearance: Free Comic Book Day 2007 (Spider-Man) #1 (May 2007)
  • Creators: Dan Slott, Phil Jimenez

With reports of Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures casting an Asian actor between the ages of 30 and 50 for a major role, fans are already speculating that this could be Martin Li – Mister Negative. This villain is rather new to the Spider-Man mythos, and it wouldn’t be the first time he’s been portrayed as an antagonist thanks to Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Spider-Man title. Mister Negative could make for a great villain, and it makes perfect sense.

Mr. Negative was introduced in the comic version of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, so why wouldn’t he be in the movie version? Mr. Negative offers an interesting contrast with Spider-Man, featuring a dual identity, a desire to help people, but with something sinister and powerful festering and building to conquer New York City.

5 Scorpion

A Villain Already Teased, Ready to Sting

  • First Appearance: Amazing Spider-Man #19 (September 1964)
  • Creators: Stan Lee, Steve Ditko
  • Played by: Michael Mando

Mac Gargan has already appeared in the MCU with Spider-Man: Homecoming, as played by Michael Mando. With an end credits tease for his hatred of Spider-Man, surely it’s inevitable that he’ll return in a villain suit of his own. There’s no excuse not to have a vengeful Scorpion now, especially when J. Jonah Jameson exists to fund the Scorpion suit for Mac Gargan.

Every Spider-Man Movie Ranked From Worst to Best

The most iconic Marvel hero of all time, Spider-Man, has 10 movies under his cinematic belt, but how do they rank against each other?

Scorpion’s seething hatred of Spider-Man could make for an interesting arc, especially when Mac Gargan’s hatred is so strong that he will try to find ways to hurt the man behind the mask, potentially putting those that Spidey loves in danger, forcing him to reinvolve himself in the lives of MJ and Ned.

4 Chameleon

A Master of Stolen Identity to Warp What Spider-Man Knows

  • First Appearance: Amazing Spider-Man #1 (December 1962)
  • Creators: Stan Lee, Steve Ditko

Since Peter Parker is no more, and New York City has a permanent Spider-Man to watch over it, it would make sense that a villain would come into play that could disrupt what Spidey knows. Chameleon can manipulate his appearance to disguise himself as anyone and anything, causing distrust of Spider-Man and perhaps even stealing his civilian identity, unknowingly.

If Chameleon does involve himself in Spider-Man’s life indirectly, as people he knows, or even Peter Parker himself, it could make for some great mysteries and force Spider-Man to return to civilian life to try and mend the damage caused by this shapeshifting foe.

3 Menace

The Female Goblin with a Mysterious Identity

  • First Appearance: Amazing Spider-Man #545 (December 2007)
  • Creators: J. Michael Straczynsjki, Joe Quesada

Menace could be one of the perfect villains to introduce to the MCU for a few reasons. Firstly, her story is tied to Harry Osborn, as it’s his occasional girlfriend. This not only brings in the MCU version of the Osborns, but also shows their dark secrets, as Lily Hollister could accidentally infect herself with Norman’s goblin serum to become the dreaded Menace to disrupt Spidey’s life and involve further mysteries with corporate entities like Oscorp.

The MCU deserves its own version of the Osborns and not just multiverse counterparts, so why not start in an unexpected place and bring in Menace, a terrifying version of the goblin that could enrage Spider-Man due to how a goblin killed Aunt May, but add mystery as to where she came from?

2 Shocker

An Engineer with a Shockingly Dangerous Weapon Kit

  • First Appearance: Amazing Spider-Man #46 (December 1966)
  • Creators: Stan Lee, John Romita Sr.

The Shocker has already appeared in the MCU, with gauntlets made of alien technology to provide powerful blasts of electric shockwaves. With these powerful blasts, the Shocker has the opportunity to terrorize New York City as a thief and a crook, and also has the power to try and stop Spider-Man from getting too close to him.

Spider-Man's Best Monster Villains, Ranked

Spider-Man must deal with all kinds of villains in the Marvel Universe, including monsters such as Vermin, Morbius, and Venom.

While the Shocker might not be a central antagonist due to his easy power set to beat, it would be nice to see him again, especially with his own arc that could even humanize him somewhat. The Shocker deserves to return to the MCU, especially with a more comic-accurate outfit.

1 The Kingpin

The Mayor of New York City Declares a No-Vigilante Law

  • First Appearance: Amazing Spider-Man #50 (April 1967)
  • Creators: Stan Lee, John Romita
  • Played by: Vincent D'Onofrio

Wilson Fisk has fought his way through politics to be the new mayor of New York City, and his hatred of Daredevil has seen him put into law an anti-vigilante task force so that New York can feel safe without costumed freaks and people dressed as spiders. Kingpin’s direct callout of Spidey shows that he knows about the web-slinger, and he’s not too happy about it.

Fisk and Spider-Man have an interesting rivalry in the comics, and it would be a real shame if Fisk weren’t able to feature in live-action movies and was instead reduced to the Marvel Television division. After all, Spider-Man’s responsibility as a vigilante would swing in interesting ways if it were illegal.
