The Splatoon 2 Splatfests are still going strong. After Splatoon 2 released to much acclaim on the Switch in 2017, the game received ongoing content by way of Splatfests for quite some time. And although they did die down eventually, Nintendo has periodically brought them back, and the most recent one will take place in just a few days.
The Splatfests in Splatoon 2 see players picking favorites and battling out against one another. For example, over the Halloween holiday, players could duke it out as team trick or team treat in Splatoon 2 during that spooky-themed Splatfest. For the Splatfest beginning on January 15, 2021, Splatoon 2 is celebrating the 35th Anniversary of Super Mario.
Nintendo recently announced on its @NintendoAmerica Twitter page that the next Splatoon 2 Splatfest will begin at 2 pm PT (5 pm ET) on January 15, 2021. Players will be able to pick between team Super Mushroom or team Super Star. Additionally, anyone who participates can also register for the chance to win a Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary coin; which will likely be a pretty neat collector's item.
Nintendo has, of course, been celebrating the 35 year anniversary of Super Mario for quite some time. Whether it be the last-man-standing Super Mario Bros. 35, the Super Mario 3D All-Stars, Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Japan, or even the recently unveiled Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, Nintendo fans have a lot to do to celebrate or more to look forward to. The small bit of fun inside of Splatoon 2 is just a good example of Nintendo branching out in interesting ways for a celebration that stretches beyond simply the Mushroom Kingdom.
Splatoon 2 is available now exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
