The rough development cycle of the Splinter Cell remake may be coming to an end after David Grivel announced his return to Ubisoft Toronto. After being announced 3 years ago, the majority of the news regarding the Splinter Cell remake seemed to be mostly negative, with development issues or members of leadership departing the project entirely.
In fact, the game has lost multiple game directors in just the handful of years it has been in development, seemingly indicating a rougher than expected development. Reports indicate that Ubisoft's Snowdrop engine is being used to power the remake and, despite the lack of news, insiders claim that Splinter Cell continues to make development progress. However, with a dedicated game director back in action, fans are hoping things really get back on track.

Splinter Cell Remake Brings Back David Grivel
Thanks to a LinkedIn post, the Splinter Cell remake project, Ubisoft Toronto, has welcomed back its former game director, David Grivel. In a celebratory LinkedIn post, Grivel announced his return as Game Director, stating that it's a "very special team and project to me." Grivel originally spent 11 years at the studio before his departure.
It's been quite a journey for Grivel, who began working on the Splinter Cell remake in November 2021, before ultimately leaving the studio in October 2022. At that point, Grivel joined up with EA to work on Battlefield 6, though unfortunately, that stint also coincided with Ridgeline Games being shuttered not too long after.
From there, Grivel returned to Ubisoft Toronto to work on an unannounced project, before departing again to join Worlds Untold, a studio that was backed by NetEase. However, NetEase began looking to offload many of its subsidiaries at that point, with Worlds Untold ultimately being closed down just as Grivel was still acclimating to his new place of work. Ultimately, this led him right back to Splinter Cell, where he has retaken the vacant game director role at Ubisoft Toronto.
Fans have no doubt been craving a bit of good news surrounding the project, especially after the popular stealth action franchise was involved in a bit of internet controversy. AdHoc Studio Co-Founder Nick Herman revealed that prior to opening a new studio, he and a team of coworkers previously of Telltale Games signed on for a new Splinter Cell game in development at Ubisoft's San Francisco office. However, over time, the plan was scrapped entirely to make way for the ill-fated live-service arena shooter, XDefiant. However, just as quickly as the report arrived, Mark Rubin, the former XDefiant executive producer, denied the claims entirely, saying the tema had been working on an ambitious, but not fun project that was ultimately canceled.
