A leaker has claimed that Ubisoft Toronto's Splinter Cell Remake will feature raytraced reflections and raytraced audio that can affect the game in interesting ways. Although the Splinter Cell Remake was announced years ago, it's still without a release date. However, recent hints suggest that could be changing soon.
Ubisoft Toronto's Facebook page recently changed its header to feature Splinter Cell's iconic three-eyed night-vision goggles and similarly changed its profile picture to incorporate a night-vision-like color palette. This has led many to speculate that the Splinter Cell Remake could be shown at Ubisoft Forward 2024, which takes place on June 10, when Ubisoft is expected to show off an assortment of games. While fans patiently await that possibility, a leaker recently gave the Splinter Cell community some exciting info to chew on.
Twitter user Visceral, who is an established leaker and dataminer, claimed that enemies in the Splinter Cell Remake can detect the user based on the game's raytraced reflections and audio. 2002's original Splinter Cell placed plenty of emphasis on light and shadows and how they affect detection, so it seems plausible that Ubisoft has chosen to modernize the game in this way. If true, this would add an entirely new dynamic to the game, as players would need to be conscious of their character model reflecting off of glass or similar material, or certain surfaces causing their footsteps to loudly echo around a corner or down a short hallway. However, it's important to note that this feature is still unconfirmed, although fans could get official news on June 10.
Leaker Says Splinter Cell Remake Has Raytraced Reflections and Audio That Can Alert Enemies
Not much is known yet about Ubisoft Forward 2024, but an official webpage confirms that it will feature "exciting news on upcoming games" from Ubisoft studios around the world. Besides the Splinter Cell Remake, other possible candidates include Assassin's Creed Red, Assassin's Creed Jade, a new Prince of Persia, and more Star Wars Outlaws details.
At last year's Ubisoft Forward, the company showcased various high-profile games like Assassin's Creed Mirage and Star Wars Outlaws, so it seems likely that fans are in for another exciting roundup. Additional leaks or official hints are also likely to occur as June 10 draws nearer.
The long wait since the Splinter Cell Remake's announcement back in December 2021 could be due to its game director leaving Ubisoft about a year and a half ago. However, the director never specified the reasons for his departure.
