Hazelight Studios has revealed that Split Fiction has already reached two million sales within a week of the game's launch. A split-screen co-op adventure, Split Fiction follows two writers, Mio and Zoe, as they adventure through simulated versions of their original sci-fi and fantasy stories as part of a unique publishing deal gone wrong.
Preceded by The Game Awards 2021 GOTY winner It Takes Two and 2018's highly praised A Way Out, Split Fiction is already proving to be a big hit among critics and fans alike. As of the time of writing, Split Fiction is sitting comfortably at a 90 on OpenCritic and has an Overwhelmingly Positive score on Steam with almost 20,000 user reviews.

Hazelight Studios revealed Split Fiction has sold more than two million copies since it launched on March 6, 2025. The studio said it is "blown away" by these sales figures, and thanked new and old fans alike for being so excited about the game. In the week since the launch of the exclusively co-op Split Fiction, the studio has celebrated several major achievements and even highlighted the game's many perfect review scores in a social media post the day after its release.
Split Fiction Hits Two Million Sales in One Week
The reveal of Split Fiction's two million sales comes just a few days after Hazelight Studios celebrated one million sales of the game within two days of launch. This is particularly notable because, like previous Hazelight games, players only need one copy of the game to play online together. With the Split Fiction Friends Pass, only one co-op partner needs to own Split Fiction, while the other player can download the Friends Pass for free.
In late 2024, Hazelight Studios revealed that It Takes Two had crossed 20 million sales, while A Way Out has achieved more than 11 million sales across its lifetime. It Takes Two has a peak player count on Steam of about 70,000, while A Way Out peaked significantly lower at about 8,500 concurrent players. Despite only being released a week ago, Split Fiction has already achieved a massive 260,000 peak player count, which could indicate strong long-term performance for Hazelight's latest co-op adventure.
Split Fiction and Hazelight's previous two titles were published under the EA Originals label, an initiative by Electronic Arts to support independent games. However, Split Fiction director Josef Fares has stated that Hazelight will never put microtransactions in its games, a stark contrast to titles EA typically publishes like Madden and EA FC. The rapid success of Split Fiction could be a sign that gamers' values are changing, especially considering how much more popular Split Fiction is compared to It Takes Two just a week after its launch.
