Splitgate 2 will add even more Factions to its game if the fans want them badly enough. Splitgate 2 was announced to fans after a long wait. One of the biggest changes to the sequel of the Halo-inspired game was the inclusion of Factions, which has become somewhat divisive among the Splitgate community. Some fans feel this makes the game closer to a hero shooter in a way they aren't fond of. Some think the Factions are closer to a loadout system and don't mind.
As it is right now, Splitgate 2 will include 3 Factions that players can choose between. Factions essentially function as loadouts, each coming with their own set of unique abilities and gadgets. There is Aeros, which is geared towards agility and aggressive play, Meridian, for those interested in running support, and Sabrask, useful for defensive gameplay. Players will be able to compose teams however they like, but they cannot switch Factions until the end of rounds.
Splitgate 2 Interview: CEO Details New Mechanics, Lore, and Meta
The Best War Games speaks with the creative director of Splitgate and the CEO of 1047 Games to explore how Splitgate 2 is building upon the first game.
Per an interview with Ian Proulx, 1047 Games' CEO and Co-founder, Tom Henderson reports that if fans create a big enough demand for more Factions in Splitgate 2, it will deliver. Henderson notes that some games with hero shooter traits like Apex Legends can lean into doing what he considers unnecessary, jumping from eight to 25 playable characters. Proulx is conscious of this type of bloat, and sets a boundary, saying he doesn't want to get anywhere near 10 Factions. Still, he is interested in making additions.
Splitgate 2 Devs Might Add More Factions
It appears that, regarding the Factions in Splitgate 2, 1047 Games is willing to listen and account for player concerns. Although a core part of this game appears to be strategy within the choice of a user's Faction and playstyle, that does not necessarily mean Splitgate 2 is intent on limiting its players. Proulx states that he isn't fully sure about Splitgate 2's final direction when it comes to the implementation of Factions, but he is ready to engage with players and figure out what they want.
Ever since a sequel for Splitgate was announced, 1047 Games showed the ambition to radically improve upon everything that its initial game was. In some areas, that seems to include changing things, and while fans are worried about how that will affect what the end product is, 1047 shows a clear willingness to hear them out, responding to things like Splitgate 2's hero shooter concerns and accommodating to these ideas with the goal of making Splitgate 2 the best game it can be.
