The developer of Splitgate 2 have been quick to correct fans who believe its upcoming shooter will be a hero shooter. Following the recent announcement, the team behind Splitgate 2 wants to make sure that there are no misconceptions about what the game has to offer.

Available through early access back in 2019, the original Splitgate made waves upon its debut for its innovative gunplay and unique approach to the shooter genre with the incorporation of portals, or "gates." Splitgate was so popular that it was almost to the detriment of the game itself, as 1047 Games had to push back the game's release date due to its overwhelming popularity during the open beta. During early access, the game became so congested with eager players that it could take over an hour to get into a match of Splitgate. After having its release date indefinitely delayed, Splitgate eventually ceased development in late 2022. Now, fans of Splitgate have something to look forward to, as 1047 attempts to bring the portal shooter back to the limelight with a new coat of paint.

1047 Games has taken to Twitter to assert that Splitgate 2 will not be a hero shooter, following the queries of some fans. With 1047 Games making the announcement regarding the development of Splitgate 2, fans of the portal-based shooter have been quick to analyze what was on offer. Aspects of the reveal trailer led some fans to believe that Splitgate 2 would take the hero shooter path, and upon being asked explicitly if this was the case, the official account for Splitgate replied that Splitgate 2 would not be a hero shooter.

1047 Games Asserts That Splitgate 2 Will Not be a Hero Shooter

While Splitgate 2 does not feature a "hero" system, it does feature a faction system, which is where some fans seemed to get the impression of the game taking a turn towards the hero shooter genre. The factions instead look more like a class system, with fans drawing parallels to games such as The Finals and Destiny 2. On offer in Splitgate 2 are the agile Aeros', the time-manipulating Meridians, or the guns-blazing Sabrasks. A single team can have members from multiple factions, meaning players are not locked out of a specific class if they don't want to be. From the brief description on offer so far, these factions paint distinct playstyles that players of Splitgate 2 can choose between to their liking.

The firm statement that Splitgate 2 would not be a hero shooter was met with positive reception from most. While some fans ascertained that the class system was no better, many fans rejoiced, pleased with both the news and 1047 Games' transparency regarding it. With how overpopulated hero shooters have become, the relief of Splitgate 2 avoiding the genre is understandable.
