UPDATE 5/23: 1047 Games has brought the Splitgate 2 servers back online for testing. While the developer noted issues with monetization are still being dealt with, players should be able to go online and look for matches again.

Original Story follows.

Summary

  • CEO Ian Proulx apologizes for server issues impacting Splitgate 2 that have caused the game to be temporarily taken offline.
  • Players will not lose cosmetics earned in the Splitgate 2 open beta despite server downtime.
  • It is unknown when the servers for Splitgate 2 will go back online.

The CEO of 1047 Games has apologized for the server issues that have caused Splitgate 2 to be temporarily taken offline. While the Splitgate 2 open beta began on May 22, many players experienced long load times, with some unable to enter multiplayer matches at all.

Splitgate 2 has been highly anticipated by many shooter fans thanks to the successful formula of the original Splitgate. While the iconic portal mechanic from the first game is back in the sequel, 1047 Games also innovated, adding factions and new weapons, maps, and modes. In addition, the game introduces The Lab, a new map creator, allowing the community to create their own original content. Unfortunately, the developer has run into some speed bumps with the open beta release, causing the game to be taken offline while fixes are implemented.

Recently, Ian Proulx, the CEO of 1047 Games, shared a video in which he apologized for the issues surrounding the Splitgate 2 open beta. According to Proulx, the development team did not anticipate the server problems. We thought we'd be in great shape by now, and obviously that's not the case. We're really sorry,” he said. A following tweet from the studio emphasized that “everyone” should be able to play the game as originally intended. With this in mind, the team is working “around the clock” to get the servers back online.

1047 Games CEO Apologizes for Splitgate 2 Server Issues

With work to figure out the issues and address them underway, it is unknown when the game will be playable again. Given the comments from Proulx, the servers will likely not go live until the studio believes the problems have been fully addressed. It is worth noting that players who were able to access the open beta on May 22 and purchased or earned cosmetics before the server downtime will not lose anything. Proulx said players’ skins are in the system and will be available eventually. “You have not lost it. You have my word.”

This server news is doubtlessly disappointing to many players who had been hoping to check out the faction system in Splitgate 2. Time will tell how these initial difficulties impact the game. Fortunately, this is only the open beta, meaning 1047 Games will likely learn from these problems as it moves towards the full release of Splitgate 2 this summer.

While getting the servers back online is 1047 Games' top priority, players have lots more to look forward to in the months ahead. A recent content roadmap for Splitgate 2 unveiled many more updates for the game coming following the open beta period. These include monthly map releases, “massive” new modes, a new power weapon, and more.
