THQ Nordic's 2025 Digital Showcase updated fans on many upcoming games, while revealing others for the first time. Included within this line-up was the announcement of another THQ Nordic-backed Spongebob game—Titans of the Tide.

The 2025 THQ Nordic Digital Showcase came with a whole host of announcements, such as the new IP Fatekeeper, but many will surely be interested in the new SpongeBob SquarePants game Titans of the Tide. SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide will be another 3D platformer in the vein of Battle for Bikini Bottom (delineating particularly off its 2020 Rehydrated remaster) and Cosmic Shake, albeit with more than a few new bells and whistles.

Purple Lamp's Next SpongeBob Game, Titans of the Tide Explained

Set to release November 18th of this year, the next SpongeBob platformer title will once again be developed by Purple Lamp, the studio that handled both Rehydrated and Cosmic Shake. This upcoming entry in the series, which will loosely tie into 2025's The SpongeBob Movie: The Search for SquarePants, will truly cement its porous protagonist as a 3D platformer mascot onto himself—having become more consistent than the other mascots that were revived around the time of Rehydrated, such as Crash Bandicoot and Spyro. Moreover, Titans of the Tide will be innovating on the formula of these SpongeBob titles; not only will Patrick return as a playable character, but the game will take the series to Unreal Engine 5 for the first time.

How SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide Will Play

The story of Titans of the Tide will take on similar themes to the upcoming SpongeBob film Search for SquarePants, sharing a focus on the Flying Dutchman character. In Titans of the Tide, the Flying Dutchman and King Neptune get into a clash of egos, leading to the entirety of Bikini Bottom being caught in the crossfire. SpongeBob and Patrick need to travel across the sea to try and get the two powerhouses to get over themselves before they plunge Bikini Bottom into irreparable mayhem. The simple plot pits two characters that don't typically interact in the show against each other, which will no doubt lead to some interesting consequences.

Through the levels of Titans of the Tide, fans will play as SpongeBob and Patrick—switching between the two as the stage demands. Patrick, who wasn't playable in Cosmic Shake, returns in a big way with unique abilities, such as grappling and burrowing. With a mix of traditional platforming and classic gameplay switch-ups like sliding, rock-rolling, and ghost-boarding, the duo will explore new locations (such as Neptune's Palace, Atlantis City, and Mount Bikini) and fight big bosses, including the Flying Dutchman, King Neptune, and Hibernation Sandy (presumably in the same form as in the episode 'Survival of the Idiots').

Similar to the other SpongeBob SquarePants 3D platformer titles, the game will be fully dubbed in English, French, German, Spanish, Japanese and Brazilian Portuguese—each with their respective original casts. In addition, the game is being developed using Unreal Engine 5, displaying higher graphical quality than any previous SpongeBob title.

Editions and Tidal Season Pass

Fans will be able to access a deluxe experience with the game's Ghostly Edition, which will include the full game, a steelbook case, 5 lenticular cards, a golden spatula keychain, a sew-on Flying Dutchman patch, the Natural costume pack, and the Tidal Season Pass. The Tidal Season Pass will include all upcoming DLC, including Plankton's Portal Challenge, tie-in DLC with the Search for SquarePants movie, and more in-game costumes.

For those wanting the full platformer experience in one, the 'Bikini Bottom Bundle—Ultimate Edition' will soon be made available. This pack will include Rehydrated, Cosmic Shake, and Titans of the Tide in one, along with all DLC and the Natural costume pack.
