Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025 featured a number of surprise game premieres, including an early look at the upcoming dark fantasy ARPG La Divina Commedia, inspired by the famous opera of Italian poet and writer Dante Alighieri. Drawing inspiration from the epic tale of Heaven, Hell, and Purgatory, Jyamma Games' La Divina Commedia will introduce otherworldly beasts in a dungeon system that will offer a "never repetitive experience," when it comes to PC via Steam.

Drawing early comparisons to games like Dante's Inferno, La Divina Commedia draws heavy inspiration from the legendary Divina Commedia, or Divine Comedy. Originally written by Dante Alighieri in 1321, Divine Comedy is widely considered to be one of the greatest works of Western literature, offering an imaginative vision of the afterlife through the lense of medieval Christianity. Looking to once again reimagine the trials and tribulations of traveling between Heaven and Hell, La Divina Commedia promises a test of courage and cunning against infernal forces in this upcoming ARPG.

La Divina Commedia Official Reveal Trailer

The official reveal trailer for La Divina Commedia begins with an Italian quote from Dante's Divine Comedy, which translates to: "Midway through the journey of our life, I found myself in a dark forest, for the straight path had been lost." Audiences then see a lone protagonist standing in an eerie forest of barren trees and a glowing red sky, before facing off against an armored, anthropomorphic creature. The two battle in an action-packed fight, reminiscent of games with soulslike combat, with the solo traveler triumphing over the curious enemy. Players then get a glimpse of the protagonist's face, which features milky eyes and a mouth sewn shut.

Already drawing early comparisons to games like Lies of P, Elden Ring, and Black Myth: Wukong, many are hoping for a unique otherworldly environment and themes true to the central story of Dante's Divine Comedy to help see La Divina Commedia apart from other titles in the ARPG genre. At the time of writing, the developer has stated an issue with the Steam store page is being resolved, after which La Divina Commedia will be available for wishlisting.
