The 2008 simulation game Spore received its first news update in over five years. The team behind Spore has been silent since 2019, but some new updates from the team's community managers could potentially revive the game and its player base.

Spore is an RTS life simulation game developed by Maxis in 2008 and published by EA. As the architects of their own universe, players are able to evolve creatures within a world of their own making. Starting from a single cell and progressing all the way up to space, players have a variety of ways to control how their creatures evolve within the world of Spore. While the game has been widely criticized for its lackluster gameplay, Spore is still loved by many fans and has a relatively active community surrounding it. Despite the radio silence from the team behind Spore since 2019, a new update has started the road to reviving the game's audience.

Available on Spore's official website, the latest news update was released on Monday, September 30. The update outlined that a new team has taken over Spore and that an official Discord has been created for the community. As of now, two community managers, RogueLyeshal (Rogue) and Reiliyn (Rei) are currently heading up all the community efforts by the team. With Spore being one of the few fun 2000's simulation games that still has an active audience, players may see these community managers making their way around various Spore communities.

Spore Fans Flock to New Official Discord Server

Alongside announcing that a new team is taking over the development of Spore, the game has an official Discord server now. This server will give players a place to read updates from the development team, participate in contests, meet other fans of the game, and discuss all things Spore. Although this news doesn't bring about any changes or new content to the game, it still managed to revive the community with a shimmer of hope for future updates to the game. In the meantime, players can still enjoy creating all sorts of creatures in their own worlds within Spore.

Despite the news of a new team taking over, the life and evolution simulation game Spore will still be developed by Maxis and published by EA. While this update doesn't bring any changes to the game itself, the enthusiasm from the team could bode well for the future of Spore and its players.
