Summary

  • Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth won't have any DLC content.
  • The team at Square Enix is hard at work on the third Final Fantasy 7 Remake title.
  • Fans predict that the final game in the trilogy will be released in 2027 or 2028.

Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, has confirmed that no DLC content will be released for the game. Released in February 2024, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is the second game in a planned trilogy, with the Square Enix team currently hard at work on the finale.

Nominated for seven accolades at The Game Awards 2024 in December, including Game of the Year, Best Score and Music, and Best Narrative, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was one of the year's biggest hits. With 99% of critics recommending the RPG on OpenCritic, many fans believe the title will be the overall victor this award season, as Rebirth's expansive open world and reimagining of key moments from the beloved 1997 classic wowed audiences the world over. Unfortunately, those wanting more content between now and the trilogy's final game are officially out of luck.

In a recent chat with the Daily Star, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi explained that the team is hard at work on the third game in the series, and no DLC for Rebirth would be released. The director noted that many fans seem to desperately want more Rebirth content, though this desire may be misguided. "I understand it completely, but I think, from my perspective, what the fans really want to see the most is not necessarily DLC. They want to see the third part of the series as quickly as possible," Hamaguchi said. "We really are putting all our efforts into getting the third game out as quickly as we can." While no more content will be coming to Rebirth, Hamaguchi previously went on record to say that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 would be a major hit, claiming that the game will be "one of the most loved, most popular games in the whole history of video games." Additionally, the popular Queen's Blood mini-game will be making a comeback.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Won’t Be Getting DLC

It was recently confirmed that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 is in active development, with many fans in the community predicting that the title would be released sometime in 2027 or 2028. While details about the finale remain scarce, it has been confirmed that Vincent and Cid will be fully playable following the character's introductions in Rebirth. Players will also be able to freely pilot the game's airship, the Highwind, rather than using it as a fast travel system. While several changes have been made to the original game's story in the first two titles, it's unclear how much will change in Part 3.

Square Enix has been keeping busy, with 2025 promising more big-name titles like Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake and the potential Xbox release of Final Fantasy 16. Naoki Yoshida, the producer and director of Final Fantasy 14, recently revealed Final Fantasy 14 Mobile, which will bring the massively popular MMORPG to iOS and Android in the future. The game will include all content from A Realm Reborn and will be released in China before making its way to players around the world.
