Hwang confirmed that Squid Game Season 3 is the final run of the series, and fans couldn't expect more from the current show. "I have no plans to make Season 4. This was something fully discussed and agreed upon with Netflix while working on Season 3," he said (via The Korea Herald). Hwang acknowledged that they could stretch the story, but it wasn't necessary. So, they decided to end Gi-hun's story after three seasons. However, the filmmaker teased that he could return to the franchise with spinoffs. He explained:
That doesn't mean I'll never return to Squid Game in the future.... I'm not planning to make anything related to Squid Game right away, though I am considering the possibility of doing a spinoff.
Squid Game Could Carry On Via Spinoffs After Season Three Is Over
