Squid Game Season 3 Will Wrap Up The Epic Story, But Could These Spinoffs Work?

Squid Game season 3 will conclude in 2025 on Netflix, and fans are curious about how this story could continue in a future spinoff.

Lee Byung-hun Addresses Whether He Would Star In A Front Man Squid Game Spinoff

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Lee Byung-hun shared that he would be happy to star in a Squid Game spinoff about the Front Man. He said that he and creator Hwang Dong-hyuk "have been joking about a Front Man spinoff since the beginning" and noted that a show about the recruiter or the Front Man would be compelling. The actor said:

"we haven’t really explored these characters in their entirety yet. Their backstory is still vague, and their character is still a little murky. To look at the Front Man with a full character study would be a very fun thing to do."

He added:

"So, as for your question — of course I’d be willing to star in it. The character has already been built and designed, and I’m very compelled by him. Just as the fans are curious to know more about him, I am too. That’s a story I’d be very willing to tell."

Recently, Hwang discussed how much of a part he would play in the Squid Game American spinoff, and also noted that he "would have to participate and lead" if Netflix hoped to make a fourth season. For a while now, fans have been curious about a Front Man spinoff since the villain is such a terrifying and important character. There are so many avenues to explore, including the Front Man and Gi-hun's (Lee Jung-jae) connection.

A Front Man spinoff is even more intriguing after the events of the Squid Game season 3 finale. It would make sense to pick up where the final episode leaves off and continue his story. Where does he go next? Does he decide to start the games all over again, or does he want to change and become a better person? There could also be a Squid Game prequel, which would share who he was before crafting these deadly and horrifying games. Since the themes of the series are about greed, power, and the show explores questions about life and death, those same ideas could be explored in a prequel or spinoff.

Squid Game season 3 was a huge success for Netflix and Variety reported that the six new episodes had 60.1 million views within three days of the series arriving on the streaming service. Season 2, in comparison, had 68 million viewers within four days of being added to Netflix. Along with the Front Man and G-Hun, the third season featured several memorable returning characters such as Myung-gi/Player 333 (Yim Si-wan), Jun-hee/Player 222 (Jo Yu-ri), and Jun-ho (Wi Ha-jun). Although some would call the Squid Game series finale powerful and surprising, others were unhappy, and several fans still had questions afterward. While there's no doubt that it was an unforgettable way to finish the story, Hwang told Variety that he came up with another ending and then made "a drastic change" when he kept working on the show.

Along with wondering about a Front Man spinoff, fans are eager to hear more about the American Squid Game series that David Fincher has been working on. There are no details at the time of this writing, but hopefully there will be an update soon.
