While returning Stalker players are likely familiar with Bolts and how they work, those who are new to Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl may find it quite puzzling when they’re suddenly handed a Bolt and are expected to use it. It’s just a small metallic bolt, but it can make all the difference in a life-or-death situation. Bolts function similarly to hand grenades and this guide will show you how to use them to your advantage in Stalker 2.

Piece of Cake can pose a bit of a challenge in numerous ways. Here is how to overcome them all.

How To Use Bolts in Stalker 2

Bolts are tactical tools that can be used to detect anomalies. They can be used to reveal their locations and even temporarily disable them. There are different types of anomalies in the Zone. The first ones you’ll come across are the big, bubble-like anomalies surrounding you when Stalker Richter hands you a Bolt for the first time.

To throw a Bolt, simply select one from the Radial Menu (press Tab on your keyboard to open it). Then, click the left mouse button to throw one at the anomaly. Wait for a few seconds for the anomaly to get disabled, and then you can freely move through it.

You can also control the bolt’s throwing distance by holding down the right mouse button. The best part is that you don’t have to worry about running out of Bolts since they are available in infinite quantities by default.

When you want to use a Bolt, it’s equipped in your right hand, meaning you can’t hold a gun or any other weapon in Stalker 2 at that time.

How To Get Out Of The Anomalous Field in Stalker 2

STALKER 2 Anomaly Hunting

To escape an anomalous field in Stalker 2, focus on a section of the field’s edge and toss a Bolt in that direction. You can quickly equip Bolts from the bottom of the equipment radial menu. Once the Bolt hits the anomalous field, it will burst, creating a small gap for a few seconds. This short window gives you a chance to quickly get through the area before the anomaly reappears.

Several types of anomalies can be temporarily disabled by throwing Bolts. These include electrical anomalies, acid puddles, and vortexes. Many anomalies are hard to spot at first, especially if you're busy running or fighting. In such cases, pay attention to the beeping sound from your detector, which warns of a nearby anomaly. If you're unsure about its exact location or the reach of its hitbox, throw a Bolt into the area to pinpoint it.
