The world of STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl is filled to the brim with dangerous enemies and locations, but none are close to being as breathtaking as the Poppy Field — literally. This field of majestic flowers is actually an anomalous zone that can make players dizzy, cause them to lose consciousness, or even prove to be fatal. Players can stumble upon the location either while exploring the Lesser Zone, or during the appropriately named, The Poppy Field side quest.

How to Start the Poppy Field Side Quest in STALKER 2
Players can receive The Poppy Field side quest from an NPC named Mityay who's sitting inside the house with the Zalissya's trader "Hamster" in STALKER 2. After talking to him, he'll ask Skiff to retrieve a Religious Icon from his house's root cellar, located in the Poppy Field.
After taking on the quest, head over to the quest marker for the poppy field. An NPC named Pomor will radio Skiff, inviting him to chat at his house. Since the Poppy Field is dangerous, which will make it harder for Skiff to locate the cellar, players can choose from the following choices on how to go about the mission:
- Pay Pomor 2000 coupons in exchange for the exact location of the Root Cellar.
- Do a task for Pomor, and he'll provide the location for the Root Cellar upon completion.
- Find the Root Cellar yourself.
Before heading out into the Poppy Field, make sure to stock up on energy drinks or water to retain consciousness for longer while exploring.
Where Is the Root Cellar?
Let's get something out of the way first. You shouldn't pay Pomor to find out the location of the root cellar. Instead, here's the location for the root cellar marked on the map in the image above, free of charge.
Enter the Poppy Field and head towards the west end of the area until you stumble on top of an open hatch leading to the root cellar. Entering the cellar will allow you to grab the Religious Icon from one of the shelves.
How to Complete Pomor's Task in The Poppy Field Quest
If players choose to complete Pomor's task to learn the location of the root cellar, they'll have to collect some broken guns and bullets from the bodies scattered around the Poppy Field. The locations of five dead bodies are marked on the map, and players need to loot them. Here's what you need to do to complete Pomor's task in The Poppy Field side quest.
- Exit Pomor's shack and head straight towards the northwest location of the body under the tree.
- After looting it, head inside the barn right next to it to find a body lying over hay. Make sure to grab the two energy drinks right beside the body next to a pile of logs.
- Exit the barn and head straight forward through the field until you reach a square fenced area with a body lying in the middle.
- Turn back and head towards the house on the left of the barn. Break the wooden planks blocking the entrance and head inside to find two energy drinks and a body in the living area. There's a chance this body doesn't have any guns. So, go to the room in the back to loot the body lying on the bed.
- In most cases, looting four bodies will complete the task. Return to Pomor and hand him all the loot to learn the location of the root cellar.
Should You Sell the Religious Icon to Pomor or Return it To Mityay?
After retrieving the Religious Icon from the root cellar in the Poppy Field, Pomor contacts Skiff, reminding him of an offer to give a special weapon in exchange for the religious Icon. If players choose to give the Icon to Pomor, he'll give players an Unknown Stalker's AR416 weapon in exchange. The weapon's in poor condition though, and needs to be repaired by a technician.
However, if players choose to ignore Pomor's offer and give the Religious Icon to Mityay, they'll receive 1350 coupons as a reward.
Can You Get the Gun from Pomor and Still Return the Religious Icon To Mityay?
Yes, it is possible to get the gun from Pomor and also give the Religious Icon to Mityay. Here's how:
- Return to Pomor after retrieving the Religious Icon item and accept his offer to trade it with the AR416 weapon.
- Once the Poppy Field side quest is marked as complete, shoot Pomor.
- Loot Pomor's body, and you'll get a few items, including the Religious Icon and Pomor's key. Players can use the key on the locked door to the left of Pomor to get additional loot.
- Return to Zalissya base and hand over the Religious Icon to Mityay sitting in the bar.
This will allow players to get the weapon from Pomor while, also fulfilling the promise to Mityay to retrieve the Religious Icon.
