  • STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl reaches six million players in new milestone.
  • The devs noted this number was “hard to comprehend,” but wasted no time in thanking players for their reception.
  • The community is anticipating post-launch content, including a free PvP multiplayer mode and paid DLCs.

Just over three months after its release, STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl has reached a new six-million-player milestone, as reported by developer GSC Game World. Despite being canceled on the year of its release back in 2012, the STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl team found a path through hardship to a successful release, and GSC was keen to share its appreciation with fans after the new accolade came to light.

The FPS survival horror debuted back in November 2024 and serves as the fourth main game in the STALKER series. Released 15 years after 2009’s Call of Pripyat, players, dubbed stalkers, navigate the varying territories of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant’s post-apocalyptic exclusion zone. STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl released a substantial update back in February, fixing over 1,700 issues and implementing improvements to AI, balance, optimization, and under-the-hood elements.

Posted on the game's official Twitter account, GSC announced it was celebrating a new player milestone in STALKER 2, sharing that six million stalkers had tuned in to play the game. The devs noted this number was “hard to comprehend,” but wasted no time in thanking the community for its reception. Players will know that STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl had a long road to launch, as the Ukrainian developer was challenged by war, cyberattacks, and a devastating fire that caused several delays right up until September 2024. Therefore, this new player milestone is a testament to the team’s hard work and fans’ love for the anticipated sequel.

Players congratulated the team on this achievement and one fan noted that gameplay left stalkers feeling like they had never left Pripyat. Praising Heart of Chornobyl’s atmospheric experience, several fans also shared their anticipation of the game’s DLCs. Not only are players enjoying their time in the Zone, but they’re also providing helpful feedback to improve gameplay, including the call for STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl to release a new game plus feature, as this is a must-have in fans’ eyes for post-launch content.

GSC previously announced the game’s content roadmap would be released in December 2024. Even though the community has yet to receive these details, STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl fans have expectations for more post-launch content, in addition to the previously confirmed free PvP multiplayer game mode and at least two paid DLCs. Considering how transparent the developer has been with the community thus far, it seems safe to say this honest communication will continue throughout the year.
