After coming to current-gen consoles earlier this month, developer GSC Game World has released a new update for STALKER: Legends of the Zone Trilogy's Enhanced Edition. Last year, in the lead-up to STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl, GSC Game World released STALKER: Legends of the Zone Trilogy, finally giving console gamers the opportunity to delve into the original games, STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl, Clear Sky, and Call of Pripyat, which had been locked away on PC up until that point.
While STALKER: Legends of the Zone Trilogy was exciting for many FPS gamers, some were disappointed to learn that the console versions of the trilogy were actually Xbox One and PlayStation 4 games that were playable on Series X and S and PS5 via backward compatibility. Thankfully, just a few days ago, GSC Game World released a free "Enhanced Edition" upgrade of the trilogy that's native to Xbox Series consoles and PS5, providing 4K resolution and up to 120 FPS. However, many Enhanced Edition players have been reporting a myriad of bugs, including devastating crashes and save issues.
10 Things You Didn't Know About S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl
GSC Game World's S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl is a fantastic survival horror title. Here are some fascinating facts about the game and series.
GSC Game World is already on top of the enhanced STALKER trilogy's troublesome bugs, as the developer has released Update 1.01. At the top of the notes, GSC addresses a PC-related issue that helps those attempting to run the game with inadequate hardware by leaving a message instead of outright crashing the game. This way, PC gamers who may not be aware of the trilogy's system requirements will know why it isn't able to run instead of leaving them in the dark.
The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S versions of Legends of the Zone Trilogy's enhanced edition are a big focus of Update 1.01 as well. GSC offers relief to players, noting that many of the trilogy's most frequent crash points have been smoothed over. Pesky save issues that players have been reporting have been patched up as well. GSC even did some work within the STALKER trilogy's levels, adding back pieces of environmental geometry that had been missing.
While some of the trilogy's most important stability issues seem to have been addressed in this small patch, many are still displeased with the number of issues still present in all three of the games. Some report controller aim assist and hit registration feeling off, and a large portion of STALKER fans are disappointed that GSC has removed Soviet iconography from the original trilogy's environments. Thankfully, GSC Game World mentioned at the bottom of its patch notes post on Steam that it'll continue fixing up the enhanced trilogy, so STALKER fans should keep an eye out for the next update.
