Path of Exile 2 has seasonal content called Leagues, which change every few weeks or months to give players access to new and unique content that can only be experienced during that league. The exact length of a league will vary with every league, but the general ideas will always stay the same, no matter the timeline.
When a new league begins, players will notice new options when making a new character, outside of the usual ones, such as choosing hardcore and solo self-found. Here is the difference between League and Standard characters, and which type of character players should choose.
Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict is Avoiding the Elephant in the Room
Path of Exile 2's Third Edict update is delivering on a lot of long-awaited changes, but the game's silence around one missing feature is deafening.
What Are Leagues & League Characters in Path of Exile 2?
Leagues offer timed, unique content that is only available for league characters made during the duration of that league. The current league is Rise of the Abyssal, so a league character made during the Rise of the Abyssal League will find Abyssal Pits throughout the game along with the additional mechanics that come along with them.
League content is only accessible by characters made during the league, so your old character you just logged into after a whi,le won't start seeing Abyssal content randomly. To fully play and enjoy the unique content of a league, you'll need to make a new character and complete as much league content as possible before the current league ends.
Should You Make A New Character for Rise of the Abyssal in Path of Exile 2?
It's highly recommended that players always make a league character, as it simply offers more content to enjoy. While there won't be enough content to completely change every aspect of the game and make it feel different from how Path of Exile 2 usually feels, there's no reason to miss out on additional content. League characters also get new story-related content known as Interludes to help boost them after finishing the main story to get to the endgame content.
Path of Exile 2: How to Get a Mount
In Path of Exile 2, the Rhoa Mount is a companion creature that allows players to ride it in combat. Here is how to get it.
What Happens To League Characters After the League Ends in Path of Exile 2?
It's always worthwhile to make a league character because once the league is over, that character is simply moved over to the standard league. That character will be locked out of future league's content, but they at least won't disappear, so you can always go back to them if you want. Since these characters are recycled, think of creating a league character as getting limited bonus content, along with great opportunities to try out other classes as the meta is always shifting.
